I currently run a small boutique, where all the stock is bought from wholesalers in Ireland! All stock bought I must pay VAT of 23%! There is a demand for larger sizes which I am finding difficult to locate a suitable irish wholesaler. If I start importing stock from the UK or any other European countries what charges must I pay and how does that effect VAT? Also what would the policies be if I imported stock from outside EU?

If you are not VAT registered then you will have to pay the local rate of VAT in the country of the supplier.

There is no VAT charged by suppliers outside the EU but you will pay Irish VAT to the delivery company on the value declared on the goods.
