Does anyone know the name of a dealer who brings in cars from the UK and gets the vrt done, etc. I contacted one crowd who do and found their responsiveness and customer service apalling - so would really appreciate any other company names.

Lots of car dealers import used cars from the UK and are obliged to VRT and register it on the customers behalf. Have you contacted any of your local dealers? VRT process is not overly complicated either.

What kind of car are you looking for?

Im thinking an insignia 2014 or an A5 2013. I see plenty of well speced ones in the UK, I'd do it myself but I imagine a dealer knows the best sources, and ideally I'd like to trade in my existing insignia (09, elite, 240k).

I'm not recommending either, in fact I had a peak in Hurst's Dublin in April and was amazed at how they were retailing stuff that someone had ruined with a machine polisher, really poor attention to detail. Looked to me like there was damage done that a propor detailer would need to charge well to remedy.

If you do it yourself you will save more as a lot of UK dealers are very much open to negotiation on price. Check out some online and ring them with an offer.

Not a bad idea. What to do with my own then? Selling it privately might be tricky as I know it needs some standard maintenance for the mileage (timing belt etc) which a dealer would be fine with, but less so the general public, I'd imagine

I've done it a few times and never found this.

You have to be in the habit of asking :)

I'm talking more about main dealers rather than the likes of Cargiant etc. If you spot a car that meets your spec and it's been advertised for 4-6 weeks they will come down on price. If it's around one year old or there abouts and you think it will check out and do a background check then just make them an offer over the phone. They do generally budge. That's been my experience.

VRT bill on the other hand would make you cry but that's a whole 'nother story and depends on how much you are spending.

I've a neck like a jockeys undercarriage when it comes to money, but I'll bow to your superior experience!!

    Hi Richard,

Have you imported many 997S Porsches 05-07? Just wondering have you any experience of the VRT costs as they are not listed on Revenue.

    Cheers,

    Tony

To estimate the VRT on a vehicle not listed in the Revenue Calculator you will need to follow the guidance in the VRT Manual - this is a PDF link displayed at the end of every VRT calculation. Its a subjective calculation so your best guess using the guidance may well be different from the figure Revenue comes up with.

Yeah I would estimate it's between 11-14k - just wondering had you seen
    any actual valuations. Thanks though
