Anyone watch Prime Time, regarding Console (the charity)

Jaysis. Dodgy dealings would be putting it lightly

3 family members involved. Different dates of birth and addresses provided all over the place. Thousands spent on travel to Australia

I just caught the end of it myself. Apparently the 3 have 'resigned' tonight :pac:

Great little country to commit white collar crime in.

If anyone has a standing order to the 'charity', you should cancel it now

Very dodgy accounts it seems, former senator who was a board member and she was never told? Id be fuming if I were her. Very suspicious indeed. Further investigation required. Prime Time has its uses, one of the better ways to spend the licence fee.

6 different sets of accounts over a 12 month period. You could hardly make it up :pac:

Shouldn't be laughing but it just seems so brazen.

In one instance an entire section of a report went missing. They didn't even bother trying to hide it. It just jumped from 'section 7' to 'section 9'

Section 8 included details of directors pay & expenses!

Where do you report a dodgy charity? I have concerns about another very prominent charity.

Not to the Hse anyway Caramay.

An ex employee of Console resigned in 2006 because she couldnt stomach what was going on.She wrote to the Hse with her concerns and they said they would "get back to her",they never did.Instead they temporarily reduced funding and then increased it by a third. The explanation given now is that if they didnt fund Console a helpline would be closed down.

Im thinking not one cent of money raised has made the slightest bit of difference to the suicide figures, they seem to be going up and up and we are no nearer to understanding why. What is the point of providing counselling services when young men wont talk and it is predominantly young men who are taking their own lives.

Console have been an invaluable resource to many, myself included. Be very sad to see them go because of this. They have some fantastic people who would not have been next or near the alleged misappropriation of funds.

They will suffer big time because of it. Same as how Rehab did. Charities in general suffer when stuff like this comes to light.

That's why it's such a disgrace that such white collar crime is viewed as no big deal by a substantial amount of the Irish public.

Those at the top should be made a huge example of.

The fact Kelly set it up himself after losing a family member to suicide and set Console up using his sister's death is the really sickening bit for me. He knew what all those people contacting the charity were going through and he took money that could have helped them.

Fully agree and the unpunishment of white collar crime ironically has led to many suicides in my opinion. Would the financial crash have been as devastating if white collar crime was punished accordingly in the past? I think not.

The HSE should be providing these services and not the likes of console, another way the state are leaving others to do their dirty work and give them a funding. Disgusting really that they have no control over where our taxpayers money goes, that or they dont give a ****e

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 801 ✭✭✭Mary63

Primetime have been making this programme for two years and yet the HSE seem to have been handing large sums of money over even while they must have been asked for information from the programme makers.I dont understand this.

Why didnt they seek a change in management way back in 2006 when the ex employee wrote to them. How many other people resigned from positions in the organisation.

I agree vicwatson,Console should be disbanded immediately and their services taken over by the HSE.

They don't give a ****. It's easier to throw some funding at charities and wash your hands of any responsibility

Considering his previous stunts, the guy is clearly a total shyster with no shame. While most normal people would never dream of abusing such a tragic situation, he was willing to use it to legitimise his fraudulent activity. No mistake, Paul Kelly is scum.

Very tough on the ordinary people there, likely working because they had faith in what they were doing and that they were working for a decent organisation. Saw that about the high-up person resigning and writing to the HSE. Fair play to her, a lot of people turn a blind eye once they're getting a large salary. Shame it was never chased up as it should have been.
