    Euro-2016-Group-E-Teams-Preview-and-Predictions.jpg

Well Its boom or bust time, a win we're through to the last 16, lose or draw we're out. Italy are guaranteed to top the table and are expected to make several changes as they'll have one eye on Spain. Sweden can also progress with a win while Belgium need a draw to be sure of progression

    Can't fathom that at all.

Comfortable win for Italy which will feel even more annoying after just watching four teams fight tooth and nail for a result.

    Excellent choice.

Id guess he'll get another assist.
    Go on Seamus

Yes we have to win so we leave out our most creative player.

    Makes sense.

shyte! Zaza is playing. McClean will have to kick him in the first minute so Conte will take him off pronto!

That's an odd selection. No way mccarthy deserves to start ahead of whelan.

So youre only input is to play Hoolahan???

I'm guessing he'll come on with 30 to go. This debate was had in October, about wes playing games within days of eachother. So fatigue is obviously a factor

The last match, you mean against Belgium. I dont think any Irish player could say they played well

No need to drop both centre halves for a game of this importance, O Shea should be included, just do Duffy in for Clarke. I would have played Meyler or Quinn instead of McCarthy because he doesn't seem fit/has played terribly. Whelan has done well and doesn't deserve to be dropped. Would probably go with Keane instead of Murphy but he's probably more effective as an impact sub.
I think Long playing in probably a forward midfield role is a good call.

We only have a punchers chance of the win. But once we put in a better performance than against Belgium I'll take some comfort. Roy talking about getting stuck in at the press conference earlier is the attitude they need to bring onto the pitch tonight.

He seemed fine in the press conference the other day and up for it.

It's a bad team. Murphy ward and mcarthy have no business been there for a start.

Looks like Italy sticking to a 3-5-2 anyways.

Why is O'Shea dropped. I've never been his biggest fan but **** me throwing Keogh and Duffy in at the deep end here??! O'Shea has been solid! I see Bonucci and Barzalgi are also starting for Italy! I cant bear the tension. O'Neill is right to put Long and Murphy up I think, but McCarthy should be out of there. Hoolahan probably come on 2nd half, he was poor the last day and doesnt have the legs for full 90 I'd say

Ive heard Italy dont really give 2 ****s about this game, if they sit back and hit us on the counter I just cant see how we win this, but COME ON IRELAND

    Coleman----Duffy----Keogh
    Ward
    Brady--Hendrick--McCarthy--McClean
    Long
    Murphy

Said it in the Ireland thread but honestly looking at that it isn't the worst. Long has been isolated and maybe Murphy will free him up to get a few more chances plus its an extra striker so at least we seem to be going for it. McCarthy hasn't been great but he's our best midfielder and a lot of people would tell you him and Whelan play the same role so maybe without Whelan in the team he can now play his Everton role for Ireland. Would love Hoolihan but it isn't shocking to see him not start 3 consecutive games in a short period plus he could be handy off the bench. It's surprising that both CBs are changed but tbh I dont feel the standard of our CBs have changed at all quality wise and maybe these lads will be out to prove a point (that they should be first choice).

Very experienced and alot of top class players in the squad. Thought El Sharaway might start

O'Neill team selection looks a bit desperate to me.

    Big roll of the dice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,640 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I can't make sense of that team at all. Why was O'Shea dropped? Why was Whelan dropped? No Hoolahan?

McClean isn't good enough at this level and Murphy has been a constant flop.

Hope I'm wrong but I think that team is nailed on to lose by two goals.

    I'm stunned by that line-up.

This team is a sackable offence if it doesnt pay off.

At least Given wasn't given a game.

O'Neill might be a good man manager but he is now a dinosaur in modern football terms.

Fine in the press conference??? So therefore he is capable of 90 minutes against Italy?

We know why murphy is playing, the ball is going to be aimed at him. Long cant do it up there on his own against this opposition, well thats what the management think anyway.

I dont know why Ward made the squad, I agree there but Oneill must love him, along with Trap.

    Overreaction much???

This group was always going to be tough, but if they lose now, Oneill goes??? Even though he just got a new contract.
