Chronic Sinusitis

Just wondering if anyone else suffers? I didn't see a thread, apologies if this has been done before!

There's a nasal sinus surgery for sufferers of chronic sinusitis, I'd love to hear some experiences as it's probably something I'll be facing myself.

I'm also taking VitC1000+zinc daily in the hopes of seeing a reduction in the number of times I'm on antibiotics each year.

Hi, I'm the same as yourself, I get quite bad pain all over my face was guaranteed a few colds/ chest infections etc a year.
I got a Neil-Med Sinus wash kit, and it's helped a lot. I didn't get so sick the past year since I started using it. Any sinus-y related illness I had I haven't felt I needed anti-biotics to cure & managed to shake off myself. I'd use it about twice a week. initially I was sceptical buying it, I thought It would hurt- It doesn't. About 18e incl 60 sachets for each use.
If my sinuses are blocked , I also do facial massage techniques and these work for me really well, they drain the sinuses and help a lot with pain- this is a good one to start with. -

    Hope it helps.

Neilmed works well, saying that I'm on a course of antibiotics now.
    Air con is a killer.

By the looks of it I'll be trying NeilMed.

I've given up dairy for about a month now, and I haven't gotten an infection yet or even a stuffy nose. Taking VitaminC 1000 and Zinc too. Not sure if this is coincidence or not, but if anyone wants advice on the diet, just PM me :)

I don't find Neil med great for me. It gives me nosebleeds and if I'm congested it hurts my ears.

I like it otrivine spray it clears congestion in seconds.

I've heard apple cider vinegar is brilliant but I've not tried it yet it's sitting in the kitchen!

Just my experience, not medical advice.
Doctor put me on Neilmed and keeps reminding me to use it except when I get an infection. You have to squirt it inward, so that when you're squirting it into the right nostril, the warm salty water is going into the left sinus, and vice versa. I find it works very well.
He also prescribed a prescription sinus squirter that I have to use every day; this isn't a place for medical advice, so I'll leave you ask your own doctor.
I wouldn't personally use over-the-counter sinus clearers without clearing it with a doctor, I've heard they can be kind of harsh.
I also got a present from a very kind friend of an air cleaner - this is a machine that you put on overnight (or if you're really bad, all the time) that filters dust and so on out of the air. It makes a miraculous difference.
Taking showers and washing hair with conditioner makes a big difference in pollen season or if I've been doing anything dusty.
Thanks for that sinus massage video, zef – it includes two massages that I learned in tai chi from Deng Er Li; tried this expanded version and it's good.

I've been suffering with chronic sinusitis since November now, I've tried every antibiotics, steroids, sprays and nasal washes and nothing seems to be making it better.

Had my ENT appointment last week and found out I've to have surgery to drain my sinuses so I can let you know how it goes in a few weeks :)

It's actually draining suffering with it, I haven't been able to see friends, been out of work numerous times over it. I'm at the point now where I can't even go to the gym. Can't wait for it to be finally over.

Anyone have any experience on the surgey?

Warm salted water in a sink and draw it up your nose a few times daily.

This will clear a lot of gunk from the nasal passages.

I'm glad to hear that it worked for you that gives me some hope :) Can I ask how much time you think you'd need to take off work after it?

I've been out of work so much already and need to try and organise time off but I keep getting told different things. Any help would be appreciated :)

Have suffered for years - in retrospect I think it ran in the family cos I can remember my father permanently being congested also.

Anyway I ended up with nasal polyps as a result of so much congestion and sniffing. I was constantly getting sinus infections and was constantly congested and getting headaches and producing a lot of mucous. I saw an ENT who just wanted to prescribe steroid drops and sprays forever and charge me 180 quid for the pleasure of seeing him once every 6 months. I stopped going after 2 visits.

Then I saw a different ENT who insisted he operate asap and he widened the nasal passages at the top of the nose, removed the polyps and drained the sinus cavities - which were both solid pus from chronic infection. I genuinely experienced so much relief after I was healed that I couldnt believe it. I slept like I hadnt slept in years.

I had to stay on a nasal spray after, although I have much reduced my usage now. I use the Neilmed all the time and if I think Im going to experience a congestion trigger such as certain foods or wine I will use a decongestant.

Dont get into the habit of overusing decongestants, it makes things worse. I use one now and then, but some people use them daily - which leads to rebound congestion if they come off it.

The surgery itself was ok but the recovery was quite long. Definitely 2 weeks off work at least (I was not working at the time). There is a lot of rinsing and disgustingness that comes out of the sinus cavity. It takes about 6 weeks to recover fully and during the first 4 weeks you cant get your blood rate too high in case you set off a nose bleed. Its not painful as such, but its like having a head cold for the first few weeks. When things settle its wonderful. The first immediate joy is sleeping peacefully. My running improved a lot too.

Mine has improved generally since it was done although I suspect one side is re-polyping (in 70% of cases the polyps recur in 3-5 years). But I am 5 years now since the surgery so its a great result for me.

My GP reliably informs me that sinus trouble dies off with age as the mucous membranes dry out naturally.

Dis you tried natural remedies for the treatment of sinus. Like massaging sinus pressure points, Neti Pot, Inhaling onion, drinking apple cider juice and other ways. They are really helpful in curing sinus, especially the sinus pressure points. You can find more informations about sinus pressure points here at sinuspressurepointsx.com

I used to suffer from horrible bacterial sinusitis, Until I gave up eating diary produce...No Milk...No Cheese...No Butter..Absolutely Noooooo Chocolate.. A little cheese on a pizza once in a while doesn't affect me, but I try to avoid dairy as much as possible.....I've not had sinusitis in in over twenty years since I ditched the diary...
