    Hi all,

Just wondering if you join a health insurance for the first time with no prior insurance and you get a serious illness during the waiting period (26 weeks) what happens? Does the illness become classed as pre-existing even if you were not aware of illness when you took out the policy and the got diagnosed during the waiting period?

A medical decision would have to be made as to whether it was a sudden illness not related to a pre-existing condition or whether it was something that you must have been aware of earlier and which existed before you took out the policy. You can't get a definitive answer with all the possible permutations.
