Not many people will be privy to that information. As said in the flight radar thread, best is to keep an eye for holding delays for when he is on approach an hour or so before he lands.

Knock airport crawling with army and police, is it related?

I believe so. USAF C17 landed there yesterday. Biden is due to spend two days in Mayo.

I wonder would the authorities offer anything to the Boot Inn for the loss of trade that the security operation would obviously impose on them or is it just a case of 'suck it up'.

I don't think it'll be heaving to rafters any time soon, let alone on a Tuesday morning. Having said that, it's a pub I really like and it does a great pint :)

True it's never looked busy when I passed and the one and only time I was in there was a one man and his dog scenario... however I'm guessing those roads are still blocked off into the afternoon considering the aircraft hasn't arrived yet... or has it and we all just missed it, I'm not in work today...

Will be interesting to see if Ops and Commanders have factored in extra fuel for potential holding....

Should be arriving soon enough. I just got moved on from gate 16 there by the blue car park. Gardaí saing no parking for the week because of the Vice President. The other big spotting area opposite the threshold to 28/34 was cordoned off too.

Aircraft are now being advised but ATC to expect a hold and that is starting now.

Appreciate security, but it's actually quite amazing how much disruption one visitor causes. Frightening that it's needed.

Any update? I was expecting 28 given the wind dir, but no sign of any approaching traffic over Howth in the last while

    Who pays for the visit?

Irish government cover the cost of Gardai etc, as is the case when leaders from any head of state visit or our heads of state visit other nations.

Ultimately, much like the Taoiseachs visit to Washington every year, the cost is normally outweighed by the benefit in increased, trade and tourism and the endless free publicity that goes with it via news and media reporting.

American Airlines landed an extra plane this week just for the white house press corps following the visit.

Can anyone cast some light as to why the Airforce 2 callsign has not been used thus far on VPOTUS Biden's trip to Ireland?
I am sure the Airlift Wing guys flying him in the C-17 would have enjoyed the kudos.....

Well I was listening to ATC at knock today and the c17 used the call sign airforce 2 a few times.

Thanks for that just played it back.Departing Dublin it was calling Reach500.
Then when working Knock he used "Reach500Airforce2".

More surprised the callsign wasn't used on the C-32 last night.

Would those two aircraft have sufficient landing distance for BAL? Seems a bit stupid to create carnage at a major airport if the military one could do the job.

They kept it pretty low profile that he was aboard the C17 when it left Dublin, I suspect to act as a decoy for security which may be why they didn't shout the call sign change. I heard on airport police radio that Reach500 was now designated Airforce 2 but at that stage they were busy chasing a drone that had come over the fence.

Whatever aircraft POTUS and VPOTUS fly in they are designated Airforce 1 and 2. Likewise the choppers Marine 1 and 2.

Cant help thinking the Globemaster to Mayo was overkill, surely a Whitehawk wouldve done

Totally but see my post in the FR thread, it was originally planned to be the 757 but Biden requested they use the C17 instead as a treat for his grandkids. It was turned round at very short notice. Taking the costs side out of it, it's a seriously cool perk having a grandad who's a VP...
