Illness Benefit

I'm currently out of work on sick leave due to problems in my job.

I applied for Illness Benefit but because my partner was claiming for me in 2014 I have no credits for that year so am not entitled to Illness Benefit. I have enough total stamps just not enough in the relevant tax year.

I have no intention of going back to my current job so I'm spending my time off job hunting.

Am I entitled to anything? We're really struggling money wise on one wage. Can I leave my job and claim jobseekers? I know usually if you leave a job you're disqualified for x weeks but would leaving the job due to horrible working conditions and being the reason I'm out of work at the moment mean anything to the social welfare?

    Thanks

You dont have enough stamps in the relevant governing year to qualify for illness benefit therefore you wont have enough to qualify for jobseekers benefit either. You will have to apply for jobseekers allowance which is a means tested payment so your partners earnings will be assessed against your claim. It will be up to a deciding officer to determine if they will disqualify you for a certain period of time but put as much as possible in your letter supporting your need to leave your employment. You can always appeal their decision.

Do you and/or your partner have a child who lives with you?
