Hi I've applied for my test for my car (b) licence. My learners permit is for both car and work vehicles, will I have to do a separate test to get the work vehicle category added to my full licence or will it automatically be on it as it is on the provisional

Automatically awarded once you pass the car test.

thats the answer I was hoping for. It would be a pain to have to pay another 85

When I was booking my test (haven't done it yet) there was a separate test for work vehicles, so does that not suggest that you need to do a test for it?

No. Anyone may choose to pass the test in a tractor if they wish but then they'd only have a licence for a tractor. The W entitlement is an automatic entitlement under the B entitlement but not the other way round.
