I am down in SW France and my orange engine light has come on. Its in some sort of limp mode but driving.I did a round trip of 200km into Bordeaux with it on and it gets up to speed slowly and stays there. I have no turbo or lockdown when the gearbox is in Auto and even when at 130kph it is revving very low.
    In manual its fine.
I have a long drive towing on Friday and Sunday so it's playing on my mind.
I have disconnected the battery for approximately 1 hour but it's still there.
I know without diagnostics it's a kinda guessing game.
I ran very low on fuel just before it came on but got a fill before it ran out.
    Any thoughts?

Do you have AA cover the technician may be able to read the fault codes

No AA cover. A quick Google on the MB UK sites with the same symptoms as mine leads to a Sensor on the inlet manifold and it's ok to drive BUT without codes it's a guess.

As other have advised get the codes read ASAP this will give you an indication to what the problem is.

Hopefully its something simple and can be fixed locally for you.
