Hi,i have subbed in youthreach schools and wondering what is the procedure for becoming a youthreach teacher. Is there a tutor panel or is it just the normal etb panel?

They're operated by the ETBs and I have never seen an advert so I presume they move people around/between centres i.e. some hours in school and some hours in youthreach.

They advertise these jobs on the various etb sites such as etb jobs and etb vacancies as well as the individual etb sites. They can advertise any time of the year. If you register on their substitute panels you might get called up this way. Mind you, jobs are difficult to come by in youthreach too.

Very few teaching jobs in Youthreach, they mostly advertise for resource persons - 37 hr week, 35 days holidays. Also is not recognised as teaching, for incremental purposes if you move into a teaching job somewhere else.

No such thing as a Youthreach tutor post any more, it's either teacher or resource person. Teacher posts are highly unlikely to ever be advertised in the future as ETBs want to employ all staff as pro rata resource persons (more hours, less money). If you are a qualified post primary teacher, to take a resource person post is tantamount to career suicide in my opinion. As previous poster said, full time resource post is 37 hours, 21 'teaching' hours which aren't actually recognised as teaching, and 16 hours admin for the centre (not your own planning). Pro rata resource posts also include 'teaching' and admin hours in the same ratio. You do see the posts advertised sometimes on the ETB websites, sometimes as a single post and other times as a panel which they may draw from through the year.
