Hi I looked on revenue but cant find an answer! Can flat rate expenses be claimed for work as a caretaker of a school? And for working a digger in a forest?

    thanks

You have to set up a PAYE online account and select your profession in the drop down menu..

What expenses do you incur in performing these duties?

Their is only one way to find an answer and that is to contact the tax office to find out .

Your occupation does not have to be listed on an excel spreadsheet to find out your entitlement.

Ask yourself these questions first :
Do you buy the tools for your job
Do you buy the workwear for your job
Do you launder your own workwear
Is your workwear supplied and laundered by employers

Even if everything is supplied and looked after for you , even still you can qualify .

As a caretaker , you may be working in dusty environment , and need PPE equipment .

I would write it out on paper outlining why I feel I am entitled and send it to them.

    By ringing them
    By post
    By email
    By fax
By calling in to tax office .

The point of flat rate expenses is you don't have to contact Revenue and keep receipts for the expenses. Instead you can claim a flat rate as set out in the Revenue spreadsheet.

If you want to claim expenses in excess of this you would then need keep records.

sorry to dig up an oldish thread.

Working as an Architects so rang revenue as architects are on the list. was told that only applies to architects in the civil service or public service.

have written to revenue, awaiting a response.

seems odd to me that revenue would differentiate tax credits between public and private roles..

The list says architects are civil service and public service only. Not sure you have a leg to stand on here.

Thanks Ciaran, probably not but thought it was worthwhile asking.

Waiting for a response for two weeks now!

I suppose I just think that I should be applied fairly. Naive I know!

Theres a reasoning behind it though I'm sure. Even if that reasoning is at some stage an architects union put together a submission to revenue in relation to their members costs.

But yeah I agree that some of the expenses are odd and its unfair that some people get them and others don't.
