    ukraine-northern-ireland-graphic-konoplyanka-davis-euros-euro-2016_3484910.jpg?20160616100024

    5:00pm Thursday 16th June
    Stade des Lumieres, Lyon

No word on the line-ups just yet.

Both sides are looking for their first win having lost their opening games. You would think Michael O'Neill's side need to win to have any chance of qualifying, seeing as Germany are their final group opponents.

Thoughts on the result? I'm thinking 1-0 to Ukraine.

Should be a better performance this time by Northern Ireland, no option but to get a result today

Presume it helps with 3rd place qualification if they both only get a point and no goals from 3 games

    Ukraine team

Pyatov; Fedetskiy, Khacheridi, Rakitskiy, Shevchuk; Sydorchuk, Stepanenko; Yarmolenko, Kovalenko, Konoplyanka; Seleznyov

    Saw this in The Guardian:
Another surprise is the selection of Aaron Hughes at right back. The 36-year-old is without a club following his release by Melbourne City and will be up against Ukraine’s impressive winger Yevhan Konoplyanka on his 101st appearance for Northern Ireland.

Draw please. Northern Ireland look to be the worst team in the tournament but hopefully they can get a draw here and hopefully Poland beat Ukraine in the last game. Germany will hockey Northern Ireland in their last game.

Hope the north can do something here, But Ukraine were so impressive against the germans i simply can't see it

Back Ukraine here at 8/11. NI are being completely overrated in the bookies.

Ukraine to break them down late on.

    A lot of empty seats.

Is Shevchenko the sub goalkeeper? or is that a different Shevchenko?

Can't believe the amount of empty seats.

The first four minutes have been Northern Ireland's best of the tournament so far.

Can't believe the amount of empty seats.

60k seats in the stadium, too big for this fixture. UEFA clearly struggled with the neutral sales.

I would love to know what goes on in McGovern and Hughes head, I live near his town and I know only half the community are supporting them, I wonder how they justify it in their aboriginal minds.

    Youri in attendance!

Can't believe the amount of empty seats.

They were selling Category 1 and 2 tickets on uefa.com for this for €25/20 last night. That's about a quarter the normal price. Not too many bothered it would seem.

Ye went with a must not lose policy last time around which was counter productive. Looking to make things happen here.

Be shocked absolutely shocked if this ends 0-0, draw no good to either team

NI in a different frame of mind this game. If they play attacking football and get a result, I certainly wouldn't begrudge it to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Yarmolenko is such a talent. Northern Ireland are going to have their work cut out to stop him.

Can't believe the amount of empty seats.

Apparently the stadium is miles outside Lyon and in the middle of nowhere

No this stadium is actually bang in the middle of Lyon, the old one was a bit of a trek from the city alrite. Just not an attractive game for neutrals

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Very, very scrappy but that will suit Northern Ireland. They've done well to keep the Ukraine wide men out of the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,568 ✭✭✭Irish_rat

A win for Ukraine would make the last game a shoot out with Poland which would be fun. In reality both of these sides playing now have no chance of progressing. Poor quality on show

11km from the city centre according to Google. It is on a tram line though.

North are very limited. Ukraine don't look like they have the ability to get in behind them however.

Well yeah a lot handier to get to than the old Lyon stadium. That took metros & buses. A direct tram to it.

In that all games are starting with two sides consisting of 11 men with the sole intention of putting the ball in the opposition net. I think.

Ukraine seem to think this is a friendly.

Bang in the middle?? It's on the east side of the city located next to the motorway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,931 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Ukraine went from the opposition box to passing back to the keeper there. Shocking. Northern Ireland won't get too many chances better than this.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,660 ✭✭✭armaghlad

I'm surprised at Ukraine. Really thought they'd be wanting to turn the screw on this one. 5 changes by Michael O'Neill, most managers wouldnt be so bold but it's paying off so far. NI the better side so far.
