Wonder what the journey time is like peak time from Earlsfort Terrace to airport?

I would tell you but a no show this morning for the 0835 and 0855.

Coming from the Rathmines corridor I think I'll be relying on this service only if I can physically see the bus. Otherwise I'll just squeeze onto a 747 post Busaras.

Bloody hell - that's not a good start is it?

Nope. Another guy at the stop had an exchange with DB on twitter. I left and am on an Aircoach.

It appears to be operating normally from what I've seen of it.

I've had good experiences both directions so far - much less meandering than the 747 (which is really only tolerable as far as Bus Aras).

I drive the 16/41 and also the 747, the quickest route to the airport is actually the 41, many times id meet a colleague on the 747 on gardiner st, by the time he does bus aras and the quays as a 747 I meet him in the airport, having worked the 41, the biggest problem with the 16 is boumount, turning right after the vicount pub is a disaster, at peak times it can take 20 mins for what is basically a series of 3 right hand turns, for an area that is well served by other buses 14/104, the number 1 comes out of shanard road and could easily be routed through boumount and free up room & running time on the 16, the 757 starts on Sunday and route training is available from Thursday for drivers

Beaumont is a huge problem alright, but it also gets a lot of customers. Yesterday evening my 16 was leaving 20 people behind on O'Connell Street northbound (next 16 in seventeen minutes), but it was 80% empty coming out of Beaumont.

The 757 seems to be doing alright in terms of loads coming out of the airport (not so sure about being very empty to the airport), but it's not relieving the pressure on the 16 yet which is really the most important thing.

The passengers favouring the 16 over the 747 to save 3 euro are the same tourists who sit 10 to a pint of guinness in temple bar pubs listening to the free trad.

Or are maybe going to or from somewhere the 16 serves, the 747 doesn't...

But then they're not favouring one service over the other, they're just picking the service they need.

99% are going to the city centre. Nutgrove shopping centre was never a big tourist draw.

Well first of all the 16 doesn't go to Nutgrove Shopping Centre and hasn't for some time.

Secondly you would clearly be surprised how many people do use the 16 to go to/from the airport from points south of Kelly's Corner.

Strangely enough, most of them actually live here as opposed to being visitors and are not visiting south Dublin as tourists. They're using it to go to the airport to start a trip or return home from the airport.

You are right in suggesting that most tourists using the 16 are doing so to travel between the airport and the city centre, but I think you certainly under-estimate the numbers of people who use it from points south.

757 doing good business southbound on Stephens Green at lunchtime

I do think that over time as people get to know about it the 757 will certainly be a successful route - it's clearly going to be busier from the airport for the moment as it's visible directly outside the terminals.

Like any new bus route it will take time for locals to get to know about it.

Well the stops for Aircoach are on Leeson St and Dawson St, while the 757 stops on Earlsfort Terrace and Merrion Row.

So not quite the same locations!

Well bizarrely enough there are significant numbers of Irish people who use the bus to the airport, and they take up the same seats as a tourist would.

    Rather pointless to ignore them.

Have used this 757 twice in the last week and am well impressed. Far quicker at getting into town than the aircoach, and mote reliable. Hope to see it going well, it wasn't too busy the few times I was on it but I was flying off-peak both times

Got it myself on Friday and Sunday. Wasn't massively busy either day either but both were off-peak too - 2:30 Friday and 4:30 Sunday. Had about a dozen passengers each time. Handy for getting to Pearse Station.

Took it myself last week and today - much handier than going through the LUAS works - journey time was 30 mins off-peak and 45 mins peak.
