Jogging at 106kg

    So I'm down from 136kg to 106kg so far. I'm loving walking and cycling as it's so easy on my joints but on my walk tonight I started to jog. Now I know jogging at 106kg isn't great but I was being careful not to be pounding on my joints. Do you think if I keep being careful not to pound would I be safe enough to keep jogging at this weight?

    Keep it up!

    I did something similar and found Jogging ok (I'm 188cm though). Build things up slowly. Slow pace with gradual increase in distance.

    The couch to 5k plan is ideal.

    Usual caveats tho. No one size fits all. If pains start and persist then rest etc.

    Good work on the weight loss. Agree also on the couch to five k. Consider also running on grass/trail where possible.

    To give the best advice one would need to know body shape (makeup) and height and age. Even some history on lifestyle and diet and fitness.

    If you haven't done so. Go to a good running shop and get runners that fit your jogging style and weight. Nothing is more dis encouraging than having wrong shoes that cause injuries/breaks. Also running on grass/trail is better to build up muscles.

    Not exactly relevant, but there are plenty of professional rugby players at or above 106kg - which says to me it's very doable.

    I'd suggest looking into some strength exercises alongside any running you plan to do. It will help to strengthen and support your joints as you do more running.

    Well done on the weight loss - I started running at about 100 - 105kg (I was a bit up and down weight wise at the time, so can't be more specific) - I'm getting close to 90kg now and have learned to love running. Hopefully you can do the same.

    Well done on the weight loss so far. I started running at 90+ and am now 75. A lot of my running has been made easier by choosing to run where I love to run, like on forest or beach trails. Running with people is the other big motivator. Go easy at the start, maintain regular breathing, easy off when it becomes a struggle as there is always tomorrow.

    I started the couch to 5k from a ZERO base at slightly above your weight (down 4.5 stone at the time). I had a previous knee issue (dislocated it at 16) so felt very nervous about this as I can't really cycle as it's too painful over any real distance.

    I completed the programme and couldn't recommend it highly enough!

    My advice is to mix up where you run, and try to run on grass as much as you can. I only had one or two iffy nights with a sore knee but that wasn't down to weight. Best of luck

    100% achievable. Just take it nice and slow and listen to your body.
