Value of a 00 fiesta for parts

    Hi all,

    I'm putting a family members fiesta up on donedeal over the next few days and just wondering what would be a reasonable price to sell the whole car for as parts. Mechanically the car is 100% but the car failed its NCT at the weekend on rust and its now uneconomical to repair. It's a zetec with 120k miles.

    Very little to be honest. Bring it to a scrap yard and you might get 150 for it. Selling it on donedeal is pointless as it'll be more hassle than the car is actually worth (which unfortunately is 0)

    €50 - €100 / you'll get less from a scrap yard.

    I buy and sell a few of these, but once rust gets a hold of them they really are only headed to one place (scrapyard). Can I presume the rust is on the sills and/or arches, generally about €300-€400 worth of work, on a car worth about €500 with NCT.

    Out of interest where in the country are you based? If you don't mind me asking

    Put it in the damaged/repairable section with a photo of the nct sheet.

    Yes rust is on the doorsill on drivers side, floor panel on drivers side and just above both rear wheels. The car has been repaired over the last few years and passed NCT first time last year but the rust really has spread this year. It's a pity as mechanically the car is 100% and has a fair bit of new stuff put into it in the last few years. The car is based in Galway.

    I assumed it would be easier to sell private than trading in against another car?

    A garage will give you nothing for it as a trade-in. Some main dealers however do have trade in schemes for older cars when you get a certain amount knocked off the price of a new car. I don't know the ins or outs of these though, but if you're looking for a new car you might drop into any big dealership place and ask.

    So yes, sell privately for whatever you can get for it. Be up front in the ad and sell it as is, "sold as seen". That or drive it to your nearest scrapyard and take whatever they give you for it. Guaranteed no hassle sale.

    Had you been closer to the Pale I would have been interested in it for parts for one I have!

    Why does "uneconomical to repair" equate to "repair costs more than car is worth", when it should really equate to "what replacement car could I get for the cost of the repairs?"

    If it's mechanically sound, and "a good bit of stuff" has been put into it recently, why not suck it up and do the repair?

    Unless you're going to go for a brand new car with a 7 year warranty or whatever, I'd opt for keeping her going as long as possible!

    I've had a 00 Fiesta since new. Top of the range for its time. Less than 90k on it. First car I had in my own name. I know how it drives. I know when something's off.

    Costs me a couple of hundred in repairs every year or two. Still prefer to do that than buy a second-hand car with god knows what history and problems that could be a cash-sink time bomb.

    Buying a new, warrantied car is different, of course.

    value as it stands pretty much zero, value in parts if you were prepared to take the time to remove certain bits and advertise them 2 to 3 hundred.
