It would be cheaper to scrape a third of your food off your plate into the toilet before you ate it. Or, here's a thought... eat two thirds of your normal diet and give the other third to someone who can't afford food.

Real bariatric surgery actually causes changes in the body that combat weight gain and regulate other systems. In comparison, this "product" is basically just revoking your membership in the Clean Plate Club. Plus if you have any trouble with blood sugar after meals, this product won't help you at all since your blood sugar will start peaking just as you empty your stomach. Save your money.

I'm not super impressed with the results of the trials, 10% of body fat lost in a year just seems really poor for such an invasive device.

I think the future of bariatric surgery is oesophageal stents like the Full Sense device. They have astonishing results in early human trials, can be implanted in a endoscopy like procedure, so much less invasive than balloons and the side effect profile is low (up to 6 months so far) and it's easily taken out. Not FDA approved or available yet, but if I were obese, that's what I'd save my money for.

Only catch is (and this is true to all bariatric surgery), the minute it's reversed, hunger comes back and the weight piles back on.

Losing weight has never really been the main challenge with obesity. Lots of people can easily enough commit to a regimen that allows them to come close to normal weight. But the problem is they are left with a hormonal profile that tells the body it's going to die of starvation, even with plenty of body fat to spare.

Leptin injections work really well here, the only problem long term is that the injection sites become incredibly inflamed and irritated, but once we can work out how to stop that from happening we'd have a pretty close approximation to a cure for obesity.

Hi EI_Dangeroso and that you for your informative response.

The full sense device really does look very interesting, but as you said it is not approved for use yet and their web site has not been updated for some time, i hope they have not shelved it.

I will look up your other suggestions tomorrow, thanks again for the response

    Hi Robfowl
This is a new procedure that has been approved by the authorities in the USA so please keep this thread alive because it is incredibly important for those of us who suffer from obesity. Speedwell, you really have no idea what you are talking about. I am really hopeful that within 3/4 years, there will be an EU Approved procedure which will allow me to have a life again. I considered Gastric Band few years back but decided against. Also, does anyone why the Bariatric Clinic at The Beacon Hospital closed?

I'm currently under treatment myself, and my specialist says my level of knowledge and ability to do the research and raise the right questions is outstanding and refreshing. I've been looking at articles in the academic press that have real scientific veracity. Don't quote marketing propaganda you Googled and then tell me I don't know what I'm talking about.
