Upgrading heating controls

We have moved into a new house and the main heating control gives us the option of OFF, TIMER AND ON. The people who sold us the house had climote before this. We have 2 thermostats, upstairs and downstairs. There is no option for hot water only.
We were trying with the idea of the nest buy I'm not that interested in having the ability to turn on the heating on my phone (the only reason why I'm considering it is that electric Ireland gives a discount)
Does the nest, or if we upgrade to any new digital heating control, let us keep our current thermostats or can they be replaced easily enough.

Edit: I found the answer to the nest query, you need a new thermostat for each zone.

So if I upgrade to a newer control panel, can I keep my current thermostats (the old dial ones)

What make you sure of this:
There is no option for hot water only.

What happens if you turn both stats down to below room temp and put boiler time clock to on?

Is there a tank stat on the HW cylinder, with a Zone valve in hot press?
    How old is house?

You need to distinguish between time control and temp control.

You currently have time control via the OFF, TIMER AND ON, and temp control for upstairs and downstairs with the two stats, so a new fancy clock will not do anything new for you.

What am I missing in your post?

Sorry, I worded it wrong, the current controls don't give us an option to heat water only, it is available in the back ground. If we turn both thermostats down to zero, zones stay cold and water heats.

In answering that I think I have answered my own question, a lot of it is for cosmetic purposes, we do like the idea of having a boost option, something that an upgraded panel will give.

One more question, I'm happy with the current set up of a thermostat for upstairs and 1 for downstairs, if I'm to stick with this layout, do I only need a 2 channel programmer, or am I better to get a 3 channel and be able to control both from one central position

Try and figure out how you could put the water on a separate zone, turning down stats is naff.
Then u could get a 3 channel clock and run 'timed or boost" power from the two channels to each of the stats, keeping 3rd channel for hot water
As asked before ( so as we can maybe be more helpful, its not because I like asking questions)

Is there a stat on tank?
is there a zone valve in hot press?
    How old is house?

    House is 10 years old.
As I'm sure you can guess, I really don't have a clue about this but I can't see any stat or valve in the press, will this limit the ability of heating water by itself or at least cost a few more € to get it done

no worries, can u post some pictures of what the hop press plumbing looks like, just take out the smalls:D

It may be a case where the hot water temp is determined by the stat on the boiler, is the HW very hot, i.e. almost burn you or is it "not too hot"

!0 years ago, AFAICR, zoning was not required under the building regs

I'll send on pics tonight, cheers, as for the heat of the water, we are only in the house about 10 days so we really haven't had it on enough to have really hot water.

Okay, when you are at it try send a pic of the stat control on the boiler.

I've attached a few pictures of the hot-press, the boiler is in a metal housing, just have to get up off my ass to unscrew it and take a photo

Have a look at WWW.Smartzone.ie (not affiliated in any way) looking at it myself at the moment.

Well that was easier than I thought, the 2 pics below shows the only access I have to the boiler, it looks like the steel surround is attached to the boiler itself
