Kitchen for new build

Looking to order a kitchen within new few weeks for our new build.

    Visited Nolans in Dublin yesterday.
Great showroom and the planner we talked to was very helpfull and friendly.

To say we were shocked by the quote would be an understatement!
    Nearly 24k!

We choose a very similar style to my parents who recently purchased from the Nolans Mullingar branch (In-frame spray painted shaker with ash/oak doors.)

They have at least the same amount of cabinets and more detailing like fancy dressers.
They got theirs all in for 18k with countertops. Our cabinets alone were 18k!

Are we been fleeced by Dublin vs Mullingar prices? (The girl claimed she is just given the quote by the one system after she enters all out plans).

Any tips of more competitively priced places that offer good quality?

I have a Nolans kitchen in my house (came in it) and I was shocked with a price I got to simply add an island. I fitted a new kitchen recently and was very happy with inhouse (branch I visited was near Balbriggan)

We are currently looking to fit an in frame kitchen as part of our new house extension. Went to nolans last week, the salesperson totally rushed us and I felt like we were just another couple on a conveyor belt. We were quoted 22k and that doesn't include appliances. Visited heritage kitchens in trim, lady was lovely to deal with , not pushy at all and quoted us 17k including canopy over our hob and extractor. They make all the cabinets themselves and your kitchen is fully bespoke, made according to your exact requirements. (Nolans don't offer that same level of flexibility- we want a larder unit and had to choose between two, neither of which we were totally happy with, especially given the money they charge!). Heritage told us they can make any style of door we want. Also went to Shalfords in Naas, lovely guy there and his display kitchen is top quality ( 30 MM carcasses on all units, high quality hinges)& he will also make you a fully bespoke kitchen. He quoted us similar to Nolans but the quality of his furniture IMO far exceeds nolans. We are waiting on one or two other quotes so haven't fully decided yet who we will go with, but it won't be Nolans.
I think as a general rule of thumb, the farther outside of Dublin you go, the more value you get. When we priced slider patio door for our extension, we got a quote 2500 cheaper from a respected supplier in Westmeath compared to a Dublin supplier. I also think that with some of these large kitchen suppliers, you are paying for the fancy showrooms , sales personnel etc.
Love to hear how you get on with other suppliers!

30mm carcass?? I very much doubt that. I'd say you were looking at two 15mm carcasses screwed together that would look like 30mm

I got a kitchen put in last summer, went to several 'showrooms' & sales places across the country, cork to Dublin mostly, found Cork and the major DIY retailers far in excess in price of an actual fitter who called out to measure and fit from catalogue and fitted to my schedule! Most of the major retailers were quoting 6 - 8 weeks min before measuring! (That said it was high season and approaching the summer holidays for their teams)
Moral of, go find a genuine fitter and ask them to measure source and design the layout you want in the space you have instead of telling some what space you think you have

    Hi Hytrogen

This sounds good. Would you be able to PM me some more detail about the fitter/price etc and possibly photos of how it turned out ? I'm in Cork.

    Hi Hytrogen,

We are also in Cork and would love a made to measure kitchen but all the quotes we have received are out of our price range. Would you PM the name of the fitter you used please and what type of kitchen they fitted for you in the end?

    Thanks!

With in frame doors it could be the frame that's 30mm, there wouldn't necessarily be a carcass behind each part of the frame, with some of the presses having several doors.

Thanks for the advice on Heritage & Shalfords Meredith.
Were you quoted 5k less for exactly the same spec kitchen?
Could you provide some details on your kitchen? (size, style, cabinet door materials, counter material, etc..)

Our architect mentioned having oak/ash cabinet doors is probably adding a lot to the price.
He suggested using poplar instead maybe.

    Thanks a million

If the doors are being painted then poplar would be fine, as oak and ash are coarse grained timbers it takes more work to get a fine paint finish on them.
