WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE between these two models of passat? I have two in mind and its one of each. One has a great spec but no leather. The other - the highline has no leather either but a pretty standard looking radio and no steering wheel buttons for the radio and no cruise control either. so whars highline about then?
Both are diesel and 2006 models.

Multi-function steering wheel was an optional extra on all Passats back in 2006 including the Highline. Highline came with half leather and had cruise control via a separate stalk on the steering wheel. You sure the car you are looking at is actually a Highline and not a UK import as they had different specs?

The Sportline was based on the Comfortline but had sports seats, titanium trim on the centre console/doors, front foglights and different designed alloy wheels from the Comfortline.

Thanks bazz, the sport is a UK import. Its a 170 bhp , but I'm concerned about the dmf filter blocking on the exhaust on them, ill have to search a bit more on them .
    How much is a replacement?

DMF is not a filter, it's a flywheel fitted to reduces vibration. You are probably talking about the diesel particulate filter fitted to make the engine cleaner. Some of these cars didn't have them fitted back then. But I'd be more concerned about the oil pump balance shaft on the 2.0 TDI PD engines of that vintage. Injectors also gave a lot of trouble on those engines so you need to see evidence that these things were replaced at this stage.

If there is no evidence that any of these things were replaced then I'd walk away as they are costly, probably close to what the car would cost to buy these days. The 1.9 TDi would be a safer bet.
