Draining land with groundwater seepage/springs

    Hi All,

I'm looking to drain a three acre plot of land. It is infested with rushes and purple coloured flowers at the moment. Have been reading up on draining.

I dug a 2 foot deep test hole yesterday. The soil is peat just like what you would get in a garden centre. The hole filled with water with a few mins, could see water seeping at 2 foot deep into the hole.

I know I need to clean boundery drains and that will help but I am certain I need drainage within the field.

My question is my only option the connacht agri pipes to drain this type of land?

    Any advice/suggestions welcome.

    Thanks.

I'd start by cleaning the boundary drains and sink them low as the fall allows, removing the dredge as you go.
Do it carefully and look out for stone field drains as you go repairing what you find.
Let it sit for a year to drain naturally, that way you can identify exactly where new drains are required based on the worst areas.
