Data Sets for Accomodation Search

What data sets are available for Ireland (and for Dublin in particular) to support the house search for the data-driven IT nerd? ;)

Have you, as current home owners or soon-to-be-home-owners, used any interesting data sets / summary reports or other resources to inform your decision or was it just Daft and common wisdom? What information did you collect to find out as much as you could about the property, the area, and the people before putting in the offer. What else did you consider?

I admit that this is more of an open discussion than a precise question.

The OSI released a website, geohive, last year that attempts to compile mapped information . It includes a lot of the same information available on the pobal website. This incorporates census info such as number employed broken into industry, number unemployed by gender , number of people by age etc. this is at small area level which is around 100-300 households

OP, please don't start multiple threads on the same topic in different forums. Thanks.
