Hi For the past 2 and a half years I've been a patient of a mental health outreach team, and I'm unhappy about it.

I want to know what happens when you emigrate - do you stop being a patient?

can you leave the mental health service by emigrating?

    thank you.

If you feel that you are no longer getting any benefit from the team, ask to speak to the consultant and state that you want your care discharged back to your GP.

Mental health care has moved on a great deal in the last few years. You have every right to determine your own care pathway.

Hi I've tried this but they refuse to discharge me - is this lawful?

I'm completely in control of all my mental faculties, and do not hear voices in my head or ever made any attempt to commit suicide.

I find it far more distressing to be a patient of a mental health team- who can throw me in a psychiatric hospital on a whim.

    Sounds like a stressful situation.

Is there a member of family or a close friend that you can talk to in order to get their take on this.

Also, you may want to contact the local advocacy service.

Mods: I think this needs transferring to the personal section

Well my mother assumes everything there saying is true.

The thing is, I went into hospital recently complaining about heart palpitations, which I truely felt, and then because of that she rang up the outreach team, so as to make it seem I was paranoid and after that they threw me in hospital. so things like that don't help.

I just want a discharge back to my g.p.

what would an advocacy service do? how do i contact them - any extra advice that could help?

    Contact the Irish Advocacy Network:

    01 8728684

They should be able to put you in touch with your local representative.

    Best of luck.

Just a reminder folks to steer clear of medical or legal advice.

Really sorry to hear about your situation OP. If you would like the thread moved to a different forum, just let me know.
