How to improve wifi on D1000 modem?

Hi, We've been having a lot of speed issues since Feb 6th with various engineers being out, changing of modems, cables replaced completely from pole to socket, new socket, cables replaced down the road (overground & underground) specialist detection equipment & specialist engineers brought in, & finally after all that we still have reduced speed from the 4MBs at the socket to 3MBs  giving an approx usable speed of around 2MBs hard wired from the modem (sometimes less). The wifi on the other hand is now a disaster, phones drop off when your in another room, Sky box is struggling & disconnecting regularly.

Apparently this is down to........ Electric fences!!!!!  Nothing can really be done as there are so many & finding the problem ones is needle in haystack stuff, so we're kind of stuck with it.

So what I want to do, is to squeeze every bit of wifi I can out of what we have to make sure we're getting the max poss & hopefully avoid as much drop-out as possible.

I would like a bit of advice as to how best to set up either what I have or to know what else we could get that might help.

Current setup is D1000 modem direct to the office PC & also to Sonos music system speaker (which is supposed to boost signal to other speakers).  I then also have available but not connected, a pair of TP-Link AV200 powerline adapters, 1 spare D1000 modem & also a D-Link Airplus G 2.4GHz WAP.

I had considered using the powerline adapter to the Sky box but have just got the new Q box & it doesn't accept direct connection at present!!!! :(  So think just boosing the wifi is our only option.

Thanks

You can try changing the Wi-Fi channel here or using Wi-Fi plugs but as the issue is down to electric fencing unfortunately it’s not guaranteed that these changes will improve your speed.

Hi Pamela, thanks for the reply. I realise that we are stuck with whatever speed arrives at the modem, but from a quick read on the Boards here it would appear to be a fairly common issue that the D1000 is not great at spreading wifi. I was hoping that someone may be able to suggest a setup that may be more efficient at doing it than just the D1000, either with what I currently have available or by purchasing something new.
My knowledge of wifi settings & terminology is fairly limited & I feel that trawling through that 224 page user manual would be like trying to read War & Peace!!  I thought that someone might be able to just say " get one of these, plug that in there, set the thingymy to that & away you go?  A bit of an idiots guide or walkthrough?

I can understand that completely Myles45, our technician support team should be able to offer assistance and tips of how to improve the speed in your home.
I would also recommend having a quick read at the troubleshooting tips here http://support.eir.ie/bb/boostspeed as other devices can cause interference to your modem so maybe moving these in the home might be a help.
