Should we keep Katie Taylor at home from Olympics?

Sending Katie into the heart of the Zika isn't the smartest idea, Athletes and Journalists are dropping out, it's to much of the risk to send one of our national assets out there.
She's still young and will probably have as family at some stage, it's be terrible if something could ruin that.

So what you think AH, anyone willing to stop her getting the plane to Brazil?

Should Katie stay at home? 17 votes

I think we should build a special vault in Dublin Castle and keep her in there behind an armoured glass cage, so folk can come from far and wide to see The Precioussss...

Umm, no - strike that. I think we should let Ms. Taylor do as she sees fit, or she'll probably baytcha. :pac:

I imagine that would be up to her to decide

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

If she gets pregnant after it I think it still could effect the kid.

Unless she's pregnant then there's no risk. And if she's pregnant then she shouldn't be boxing in the first place.

    You think wrong.
Based on the available evidence, we think that Zika virus infection in a woman who is not pregnant would not pose a risk for birth defects in future pregnancies after the virus has cleared from her blood. From what we know about similar infections, once a person has been infected with Zika virus, he or she is likely to be protected from a future Zika infection.

If Katie Taylor wishes to bate the head off another woman, then a trip to my local Supermacs at 2am any Saturday morning will provide all the opportunities she desires.
The risk of contracting some strange tropical disease while there is slightly higher unfortunately.

Zika can be passed from men to their partners during sex. So if you're going to keep Katie Taylor at home you must also prevent all the men who have female partners of childbearing age from going to the Olympics. Also any men who might have casual sex with a woman.

Or you could always let grown adults make their own choices, I suppose? Even the women...

Really thought this was going to be about the recent addition of professional boxers to the Olympics.

Don't really are too much if she goes or not. Being able to beat the head of someone be that in the ring or a nightclub carpark isn't much of a thing in my eyes, when I see a boxer I always think "travellers".

It'd take more than a couple of fine weeks to enable the Zika carrying mosquito to transition to Ireland.

I hope that zika doesn't make its way into the Olympic athletes villages.

Boxing is indoors, so presumably its much less of a risk than say Rory McIlroy spending a couple of hours on the golf course

Considering Rory McIlroy can't get pregnant, I can't see it ever being a risk to him anyway.

Edit: I know it can be transmitted through sex but it's not believed to last that long in sperm. Although the tests are still unclear.

The OP will be giving The Journal.ie ideas, this is right up their street

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

Katie Taylor is a lesbian. And as she is a boxer, I would say more a domme lesbian than a femme one. In other words, in a lesbian relationship she would be the masculine one, and her partner the feminine one. So less likely to be the one carrying the baby. The lesbians I have known that have kids, it has always been the femme one that gets pregnant, never the domme one. So I think having kids in the future would be the last thing on her mind when it comes to the Zika virus. But feel free to correct me with an example of a lesbian boxer who has carried a baby, and not her partner.

Speculating, or worse, stating to know her sexual preference is ignorant at best.

Dollars to donuts they're one of the ones who was frothing at the mouth when Katie had the audacity to thank God after her wins in London.

As to the OP, she's a grown woman and can decide. I'm no expert but it looks like the relevant authorities have decided it's safe for people to do so. Here's hoping she has a great Olympics.

I'd say risk assessment is up to her and her advisors. This mysterious "we" and suggestions that they might be "keeping" anyone from going anywhere would seem to be a bit contrary to the idea of freedom of choice and is probably illegal.

I don't see the offence - if she's a lesbian, she's a lesbian - so what? The important issue is that she has a horrible voice!
