Hi all

We are thinking of changing the family car, we currently have a Mazda 5 2007 and the value has dropped ( to be expected with the high tax) to around 2 / 3 k

What has really surprised me in the second hand market is the Skoda yeti. For our budget around 12k we are lucky to get a decent 2010 that hasn't traveled the world a few hundred times, possibly a 2011

I could get a 1.6tdci focus for 12.5k but I am hearing horror stories about the reliability of that engine.

What are your thoughts?

Low depreciation/ high desirability and real world reliability are almost almost mutually exclusive from what I see!

50% depreciation would be normal over 3 years, more you spend the more you lose.

Cars depreciate. All of them (that you could use daily).

p.s. The TDCI engine is fine as long as it's had proper and regular servicing. Don't buy one without a verifiable service history.
