Anybody else go to this? He was a happy man going home, I'd say. One cow and her twin calves made €18,300. I'd say it wasn't far off the €450K when it was all totalled up.
I thought I might pick up a nice maiden heifer towards the end. Had my eye on one and she made €4,500. Didn't even get to bid on her.

Wasn't at the sale but read through the catalogue and saw the updates on Social Media about it. Was there any difference in price when stars were taken into account? Noticed a lot of the cows were 1 star animals, all very docile stock was what I was hearing too.

Ya, stars definitely selling. It was a huge amount of animals in fairness. A normal society sale would hardly have that much. All un-haltered and all very docile. You could walk into any pen and they wouldn't take any notice. The only two wildish cows I saw were by malibu.
Nearly all were related, so a lot of younger heifers had their mothers a few pens away.

Helped as well seeing the progeny of cows that were for sale, you'd have a fair idea of what you'd be buying. What Lot number was that cow that made the big money?

Lot 76 made 8,400. One heifer calf (76a) made 3,000, the other heifer made 6,900. Only 10 months old.

Lots of stars with lot 76 and good scoring too. A big herd to go through AI too, don't think I saw a stock bull for sale. Prices were strong by all accounts, saw the average price was 2839 so there was nothing going cheap!

Why was there such a difference in the price the twins made?
He seems to have used On-Dit a lot, what did you think of those animals?
There's a short video of the stock on the Thomastown Limousin facebook page, super looking stock, it must be tough to sell a herd like that.

A good question. One was slightly bigger than the other. No kidding.

He used a lot of On Dit, bavardage, an On Dit son and Cerberus. On Dit breeds a good type, not overly muscular, tall, good top lines, and quiet. All looked like easy care cows, if you know what I mean.

He is selling up to change to dairy? This I read in an article on farmingforum ! Would a herd of this quality not leave him more profit?

You would have taught so anyway, if not what chance does your average pedigree breeder or commercial suckler breeder have.
