Is it possible to do a reset to factory default of all settings on a marshmallow phone without wiping all data too? A bit like "reset all settings" in IOS

Try going to Settings then Back up and reset menu. Reset Settings option should be in there.

    its not possible.

you either factory reset android or you dont.

however on marshmallow, apps can backup to google drive. you can check it in the google drive app. open it, tap the hamburger menu, go to settings. then manage backups. you can see what apps have backed up.

for photos/videos, backup everything to photos.

anything else you might be able to copy over when you connect the phone to your computer.

Have you tried booting to recovery to see if you can wipe cache? When you say keep data do you just mean pictures etc or do you mean apps + plus app data?

I.e. are you looking to kind if refresh the phone but keep everything including apps?

If its just your pictures/contacts/txt messages/whatsapp messages your looking to keep etc etc I personally would have those backed up manually in about 5 minutes then do a full wipe. But thats just because I'm used to fully wiping my phone all the time. Google will offer a list of your apps from your last known device back up to reinstall during the set up process.

The phone wouldn't ring. So I was wondering was it some quare settings causing this. What I wanted to do was factory re set all the app, notification, sound, etc settings to factory default in case some little fingers had pressed some buttons causing un expected changes to phone. The old Nokias had factory settings, IOS has too. I think it would be a good feature on Android
