Has anyone else problems with the toyota pre precollision system. If the weather is wet, foggy, cold, raining or indeed if the car is full of people, the glass in fornt of the sensor will fog up and consequently you will get a flashing message on your dash. You cannot disable it as it is safety. it further disables your automatic lights. These are not cheap extras and basically you do not know when they will stop working.Toyota know about the problem and have tried twice to fix it.has anyone else experienced the same and pursued Toyota? its a 2015 toyoata avensis luna

Have you tried turning on the AC to clear the fogging up?

as above, the ac system has a drier built in so it keeps the car free from moisture, even in winter. I often use it on the wet cold days to keep all the windows from fogging up

There's no excuse for internal misting in modern cars. If you use the air-conditioning/climate control properly that would be one cause eliminated.

there is dual climate control, i should not have to run the front demisters on full heat and full power to make it work ( this can take 10 to 20 mins and re occur within 10 mins of turning them down to acceptable levels). i bought the car so i could drive in comfortable conditions not having a warning light flashing at me every 4 seconds and a gale force winds blowing to drown out the radio. if i wanted a mr. bean car then thats what i would have paid for , not a top of the range.

Is there no fuse you can pull out or wire to disconnect?

You wouldn't need to do any of that. Simply turning on the air conditioning and leaving it at whatever temperature you fancy should be sufficient for keeping the windscreen clear. Also, make sure the 'auto' feature is on - climate control is best left to its own devices to figure out the best way to reach the temperature you've requested.

I've had a quick Google and it seems that while Toyota have indeed had issues with this system on US market cars, this was resolved some time ago and I have not seen any reports of the system developing a fault in the Avensis, so I'm wondering if you're using the a/c correctly (which is to say as I've described above)? If you're doing all of the above, then there is no excuse for what you've described happening and you should make a complaint directly to Toyota Ireland if the dealer doesn't satisfactorily fix it.

Leave the air con in auto, it will blow a gale in current weather when set low. Have you any dampness on carpets near the front of the car?

I run everthing on Auto, thats partly why i bought the car. who is responsible toyota or dealer, how many other cars have the same problem? lots of technical talk form toyota but no answer, one mechanic told me it was never tested in Irish climate, the northern european countries are experienceing more trouble. Has any noticed they have pulled the advertisment containing the safety sense pre collision .

More the issue is why it's fogging up. Even my 13 year old Citroen can manage to keep the screen clean with the A/C on a damp day.

Has the pollen filter been changed on it since it was sold in 2015?

full heat? why would you need to run it on full heat, the ac has a drier built in, it dosent need to run warm to dry,

Are you on recirculating air? Maybe the system is stuck on recirc? I saw that on an Avensis in work, a linkage had hopped of in the heater box.

Get all the internal windows clean, check the detailing forum for good products. Dirt on the window is the biggest cause of fogging. Once you have the window clean never touch it again till you are cleaning it, let the air conditioning clear all fogging and properly clean the windows monthly or more often.

the sensor is behind a sealed unit, so 1. i cant clean it and 2. the rest of the window is not fogging up. Design issue

this the problem i believe, major design flaw , for a country where it rains, gets foggy , or even frosty (wherever this strange country might be)

I happened to be a Toyota dealer about 2 weeks ago in the midlands.

There was a guy there with a 2016 Avensis with similar issue to yourself....

I think he said he was getting a software upgrade to either remove or disable it...

    Worth checking with a dealer....

yes ive heard they are going to reduce the frrquency of the flashing light on the dash, but then the sensor still is working and neither are the other auto features. so why pay for them?

A colleague at work has the same issue with his avensis. It was very bad during the winter. Took about 30 minutes every morning before the system started working. No help from Toyota.
