Having purchased a 2016 2.0tdi 150bhp A3 saloon. I am delighted with the car on the most part I was between this and a golf GTD at the time. 2 mods I'd be interested in are a remapping and something to give it a nicer sound when driving. I know the golf has some electronic witchcraft implemented to do this I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to improve the sound. And who would be recomended for the remapping.

"Some diesel cars produced by the Volkswagen Group also an "exhaust soundaktor". This system uses additional speakers in the exhaust system of the car to generate "a low-pitched, roaring sound" intended to make the car sound less like a diesel and more like a conventional gasoline engine."

You'd wonder why though, many people on here simply love the refined purr of a 4pot diesel!

did you not have the option of the fake noise on the Audi? They seem to offer it on some models.

Must've missed it on the extras list it's only after driving the golf with it that I'm jealous. Lovely sound from it inside the car.

Here's the firewall version (used on petrols?) - didn't think putting it up against the window was a great idea though!

First thing I did with the FR and VRS with that stupid bloody actuator was disable it. Your really will tire of it very quickly. Make brum-brum noises in your head instead, I promise you it's better for your sanity.

Remap means bye-bye warranty on engine and gearbox components. A popular choice in the UK on these engines is a DTUK tuning box as once removed is supposedly untraceable if you believe the blurb. Then you can play the "what does that warning light mean?" game.

I've had cars remapped in the past but no way I'd do it to a car still under warranty.

I know BMW and a few other manufacturers offer performance upgrades including hardware as well as tuning that is manufacturer approved so doesn't affect warranty, Audi may offer the same. Not cheap though, BMW charge around €1200 for theirs on the 5 Series but maybe not the worst when compared to the price of the car.

OP, the price of a proper remap and the extra insurance premiums would have more than covered the extra €2K to get the 184PS A3. As others have said, you'll loose warranty straight away and the insurance will be higher as its now modified.

The sound actuator (in the FR anyway) is a tad annoying and is off when the car setup mode is in normal. As a result, I drive using that most of the time, using the sport mode (with that sound actuator on) when overtaking & I need full power due to the silly noise from it.

I did a bit of digging and the 150ps is not that easily upgradeable to the 184PS as the 184 runs lower compression ratio pistons (for higher boost pressures) when compared to the 150ps. On some MBQ cars, the 184ps has bigger front brakes, different rear suspensions, etc so trying to insure the remapped 150ps as a 184 won't work either
