HD & SD channels in Sky EPG??

    Hey,

It's always bothered me why the Sky EPG has listings for the HD and corresponding SD channels - can they not just use the one listing? Is there a reason why an SD viewer viewing the HD channel (downscaled) would cause issues?

Also, it really bugs me how most channels have the HD channel in the priority position, with the SD lower down (e.g. BBC 1 HD = 141, SD =

Old SD boxes can only decode MPEG2 as far as I know and most HD channels use MPEG4.

I agree that they could find a way to have separate EPG's for SD and HD subscriptions though.

Sky,s epg is no good its all over the place total head wrecker .

Still no free HD yet or rte player .

Probably waiting for the next price increase and tell us its upgrades and they want to bring us the best of everything but at a extra price for the end user as always.

As you are an official representative could you not answer the question/s here?

If not, why not? Is it forbidden?

There are restrictions placed on Verified Reps regarding what they can and cant do in "other" forums and in what situations they are allowed to post. I wont comment on this specific case as its up to the Satellite forum mods to address that.

All I would say is that (and this is just my personal view) I believe there is a bit more scope for the likes of Sky Reps to address certain points raised in this forum but the downside of that is that they are taking traffic away from their own Talk To forum. Swings and roundabouts really :)

I have free HD on my Sky box for some channels like RTE1 HD unfortunately and I hate it and don,t want it. The only thing different I see it does is use more space on the Sky box when a program is recorded on it. it. I am happy with the SD channel can,t see what the fuss about HD is.
Also why would you want the RTE players its horrible to use and if you have a Sky box you can record a program if you can not watch it and watch it later and must stations now also have a +1.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

I agree RTE do that unfortunately but BBC do not. BBC 1 is 141 the way it should be there is no BBC1 HD as far as I know and even if there is I don,t care for it or where it is. BBC 2 is 142 and the HD is 143. Wish RTE would do it like that RTE 1 should be on 101 not 277 put the HD channel there.

Maybe a trip to your local Optometrist is advisable...

Jesus, all I did was ask a question. Is that not allowed?

You might want to remove whatever crawled up your arse.

We can't get RTE1 HD on Sky here in NI as its encrypted under 'other channels' and RTE1 SD is on the Sky Epg. I must say this is disappointing as I much prefer HD to SD especially for watching sport. Also unless you're recording a multiple amount of programmes in HD there should be more than enough space on even a 1Tb box.

Because we pay good money for a service and all this should be basic by now .

They have made plenty of money from the irish market over the years you would think they could give something back .

And they can,t even add the fta channels into the epg we have to go to other channel which can only hold 50 station newstalk has only been fix at last .

believe in better yea right better prices as they have been given us scraps for years compared to the uk market .

I agree with some things you say there but also think I should not have to pay for something I do not want. For instance I have no interest in having the HD channels so could I not get a very basic Sky pack and pay say 24 euro for it. All I have on interest in is the the basic Sky channels and the +1 channels and without the HD channels and other crap the Sky box is supposed to be able to do that I have never used.

I agree its a pain having to go to other channels to get them but that is between Sky and them channels like ITV and UTV for instance don,t want be on the Sky EPG for some reason.

Thread closed, but there is an open invitation extended to the OP to start a new thread on the same topic if they want. This one is now side tracked beyond recovery I'm afraid.
