Simca 1100 van, also badged Dodge and Talbot, completely forgotten about them. Has even one survived in Ireland?

Man those simcas would rust in front of your eyes

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

My father bought one brand new in 1974 (not a van). Rust brown metallic, lovely 70s colour :p

Was a good car, never any trouble with it. Didn't rust at all. It was rustproofed, did only 5k miles per year, was garaged and my father sold it in 1978. That helps too :p

Wow, and I thought Irish-assembled Corolla KE20's were bad for rust... ;)

Were those pictures taken years ago or recently? see a car in the background (Primera) that I cannot find parts for.

    Thanks.

Yep. The synchromesh was supplied by Porsche.

Pity they didn't licence rust protection methods from anyone (although, in the 70's, their choice of successful rust-beating manufacturers would have been sparse)

Porsche fully galvanised cars in the 70s ;)

Yes, Porsche knew their stuff, but few others (even other premium German brands, such as Mercedes) were doing it - today, I see monocoque classics in two definitive eras - BG & AG (Before Galvanisation and After Galvanisation).

In the early 2000's, I moved from Mk1 Golfs to an Audi 80 Avant because (at my student/just married) budget, a car that didn't rust, but was familiar to my VAG-experienced hands, was the only way to go.

Notice how all of the other (galvanised) cars in the background of pmg007's photos are not rusted (although worn out in other ways).

Funny you mention the Audi 80. My father bought a brand new one in '87 and that was his first car he didn't rust proof. They came with something like a 12 year warranty against structural rust, and I clearly remember that was pretty impressive at the time (big mention of it in ads and in the brochures)

I bought my '93 80 in the UK in 2003 with no rust, and sold it in 2012 (still no rust) - it's back in the UK now, and still on the road as of a few months ago...

Can't see a 'Mera in that pic. There's a Sunny. Anyway what parts are you looking for and which primera?
    I have some bits for a p10

First pic, nearly sure that is the r/h front corner of a maroon P10.....had an 'SLX' in that colour, wish I stuck it in a shed, would love have it now or wanted an SRi version back then also....

There is no way there is a primera in that pic for me. The pic I'd say is no later than 1982, and at least 79 with the starlet there. There is a beige datsun violet in there though? Predecessor of the primera in a way.

Ambulance is a Mk1 Ford Transit, probably a V6 petrol.
I think the blue car could be a Hillman Avenger

I think you are at the wrong pic :-) the pic he is referring to is a couple of posts down of cars in a field/scrap yard mainly of a rusty red simca car, not the original post picture....
