    Hi 48nico,

    Thanks for your query.

Once you have submitted your connection application form, your local Water Department will then liaise with Irish Water in order to assess the application, taking costs and technical design solutions into account. Irish Water will then issue a connection offer to you, which will lay out the costs and work required to facilitate this new connection.

You can see more information here.

    We hope this information helps.

    Thanks,
    Mairead

Sink your well. I think you will find it will be cheaper than the rip-off price you will get from I.W.

We would advise that you get in touch with your Local Authority as they carry out the preliminary investigation works for a new connection.

If there's anything else that we can help you with, feel free to get in touch.

    Kind regards,
    Amy

What is a "local Water Department" ?

IW is "in charge of water", right ? Why is there a third party that has to "liaise with Irish Water" ?

Or do you mean "your Local Authority" ?

Interesting. Partnership with the organisations who apparently couldn't manage the water infrastructure, supposedly necessitating the need for Irish Water to be set up with all the extra expense and bills ?

And when someone wants a connection you tell them to contact said Local Authority directly ?

So much for IW being "responsible for the water infrastructure".

    From water.ie
Irish Water took over responsibility for public water and wastewater services from the Local Authorities with effect from 1st January 2014. Irish Water is now responsible for the operation of public water and wastewater services.

That "took over" doesn't seem to imply "partnership with", and definitely doesn't suggest that the LA should be the first port of call when requesting a new connection.

It'd make anyone wonder what IW actually does apart from billing, to be honest.

Irish Water is bringing the water and wastewater services of the 34 Local Authorities together under one national service provider. Irish Water is gradually taking over the responsibilities from these Local Authorities on a phased basis since January 2014.

    Thanks,
    Mairead
