EPC light on Golf MK5

Hi, having an issue with a Mk5 i bought recently.

The EPC light is popping on and off but doesn't seem to be affecting the performance of the car.

When I bought the car the reverse light switch was unplugged which seemed strange. Tried to unplug it again but the EPC light is still coming on.

Is there any checks I should do before bringing it to the mechanic?

    Thanks.

Just fixed a similar problem on mine, replaced 2 oxygen sensors & we're all good. First sensor replaced fixed the epc light, second one was it was reading rich on idle after replacing the first.

Have a look at vacuum hoses as sometimes a split or hole will throw up a light. Iv just replaced 150euro worth of hoses in my golf mk4 to sort an issue like yours. You might he lucky and it may be a hose. Oh and mine cost 150 as I replaced all of the hoses at the same.

If there's a leak or split in a hose you might be able to hear it if you lift the bonnet when the engine is running. Listen for the sound of air rushing & give any flexible hoses you can see a light wiggle.

Ah yeah I know that it's why I replaced the hoses one was split the other had gone soft so I changed all of em while I was at it. Just mentioning it as the op may have a hose issue and not an oxy one.

Thanks for all the replies lads. Couldn't hear anything under the bonnet, but when I accelerate I can hear a sound of air rushing.
