Hi looking to get attic in 3bed end of terrace insulated.. we have been quoted € 700 for about 12 inches thickness of insulation. .this includes vat and 300 grant...is it a reasonable price? We wouldn't be able to do it ourselves.

What are they insulting it with?

If its just rock wool, fiberglass etc in a roll you shouldn't be paying more than 500 / 600 Euro supplied and fitted.

Quite often you'll get a better price not looking for the grant. I'm not talking a cash job. To get the grant the company has to be registered with SEI. They have to pay SEI annual fees.

Is it a hip roof or a straight gable?

    What insulation is there already?
What do they propose to use?

Any chance of any pictures of existing?

I am less concerned with price as with it being done right

    from another post
What is more importnat is that the new insulation is done properly,
Have a look at different ideas here

say diagrams on page 267and 273

If it is rolls of stuff that you just will horse up through the attic hatch then it will not be a good job as it will sit across the rafters and the ventilated eaves will allow cold air in under the new insulation, making the exercise useless and may lead to mould issues at the eaves.
Then if you upgrade the install process to ramming it into the eaves with a brush from the attic hatch you may have issues with attic ventilation.

Air passing through insulation makes the insulation useless as it is the entrained air that is the insulation, the fibre/foam/wool is just the medium.

If you have a typical semi-d with a hip roof then its a tough job to do right.
