So i looked this up and it is a widely known issue. But the other day i was at a friends house and used his computer to transfer video from my gopro to my phone. The files transfered really quickly, around 4 mins for a 1gb video. Back at home this would have happened overnight and be finished not long before i got up the next morning! Ridiculous!
    So what gives?
How is this known problem not an issue on another computer?

Most likely his computer is using a USB3 port, yours is USB2 or maybe even 1 which are way way slower.

    I'll look into that. Thanks.

You will know the USB 3 port from the colour, it will be light blue at the connection points.

Just checked my pc. Light blue bit in the middle of the usb socket. I recall the manual saying its usb 3 now that i think about it. Hmm...
Could it be a driver issue?

Edit: i used the same cable both times and it is a short one, 500mm.
