Query about spouse returning to work

    Hi,

My wife is returning to work soon, part time. We're not sure how long it will be for. Rather than changing my tax allowances, I'm probably going to keep the full tax free allowance.

My key question is - she'll be paid around €20 an hour working <18 hours a week - will she start at the lower rate of tax or the high rate? I earn enough to pay the higher rate of tax?

    Thanks for reading this.:)

She will have her own standard rate band of approx €23,000 which you can't take. She will also qualify for the PAYE tax credit.

Only issue to be careful of is the loss of the home carers credit.
