    Hi,

I'm looking for 7 in-ceiling speakers to cover a bedroom and bathroom (all 1 zone) and an amp powerful enough to drive them with an auto on-off option.
Any options you can provide? The speakers need to handle a damp environment of a bathroom.

I'm planning on using a Chromecast Audio with the AMP and would like to shut down when not in use to save energy.

    Thanks
    Ronan

    Hi Glenagoolie.

    Apologies for the delay.

I would not have a stereo amp to run 7 speakers unfortunately.

You could use a home cinema amp and run it in the multi channel audio setting.

For a 7.1 amp you would be looking at the Onkyo TXNR646 coming in at 399.99 Euro (Inc Delivery)

The sleep timer is done via an internal timer and can be set for how long you would like it to stay active for. There is an auto standby mode which powers the unit down after 20 mins if no video or audio is detected.

For the speakers you could you at the Monitor Audio CT165 priced at 139.99 Euro each (Inc Delivery) -  I could offer a deal at 100 Euro each.

Or you could look at the Cambridge SS10 priced at the same price of 199.99 Euro (Per Pair)
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-200049-incognito-ss10.aspx

Personally I think the Monitor Audio's are much better.

Neither of the above two speaker are designed to be water proof but should hold up ok in a bathroom ceiling as long as they are not directly above the shower.

    Let me know your thoughts.

    Any questions please ask.

    Hi,
Would the sound levels at each speaker be the same coming out of a 7.1 amp. I'm not familiar with multi-channel audio setting.

If I just went for 4 speakers (similar to what you listed) any Amp options for those?

With the Auto standby will it come back on when there's a signal? This amp won't be very accessible.

    Thanks

    Hi Gelanagoolie,

The 7.1 amp could be set in 7 channel stereo mode, so to a certain extent yes it would be the same sound level in each. The timer option Kenny had mentioned would only be a sleep timer to switch off, and not an auto start again unfortunately

There are quite a few stereo amps that can run 4 speakers, but they wouldn't have any timers/auto standby.
Can I ask what sort of set up or situation this system is for? just so I can have a bot of a think of the best option for you?

There is the likes of the Denon Heos system, - http://www.denon.co.uk/uk/heos - where all the amps/zones can easily be switched on/off from a smartphone app if that was any handier?

    Cheers
    Brian

The Yamaha AS501 has an Auto-off sensor - its automatically set to switch off after 8 Hours if it does not sense any input - it will also run 2 pairs of speakers ( ie 4 speakers) these are switchable in pairs, but the volume level is the same in each pair,
