I'm 22 and working in retail and just applied for the clerical officer position. Is this an office typed job and do many young people work as clerical officers ?

Is it an ok job in regards to difficulty/workload as I want a job I can handle. Thanks

I was only there as a temp; but I was still dealing with the public, its was very basic monotonous stuff. Even witnessing full time folks do their job it seem really straight forward.

Only part that I'd say may come up as an issue is sometimes there did seem to be a lot of particular details that may apply or don't apply to certain situations that could be beneficial to know (DSP so different benefits that could exclude or include other benefits with different requirements).

Doesn't represent all departments but dealing with the public will help in your aplication.

Believe me if you can work retail you can work anywhere im over 15years in retail and need out. Looking to move to clerical work so doing a microsoft office course at minute. Sick of weekend work and the dreaded xmas rota. Good luck in whatever you do.

If you pass the psychometric testing and the interview, then you'll be well able to do the job. Workload and complexity of the work vary from Department to Department but you won't be expected to know it all on Day One.

    You'll be absolutely fine.

This. If you can get a position you deserve it.

You'll be grand. As a co you won't be a decision maker but that doesn't mean you won't make decisions on things.

Just keep the head down, be friendly and try no step on too many toes.

A PO from my old dept is a PO in my new department. I don't think upset her in our past lives:)
