If we get the "Broken men" speech or a variation of it, I'll be very happy.

House Mormont looks to be making an appearance. That bridge city is in Essos right?

Looks like Osha and Theon will be needing more ships, maybe the Volantenes will give them ones so they can get rid of Dany. Though the Red Faith has a lot of followers so they could help, maybe pick up Arya on the way.

Jaime and Blackfish will talk, he'll refuse to surrender and then they will threaten Edmure, only question is if he'll give in.

Looking forward to the Mormonts, northerners have some of the most interesting lines and don't bs. Davos will probably pull his usual routine, they don't seem to be swaying the other side, he makes and speech and they follow whoever he promotes.

Would be interesting if Jorahs sister shows up considering shes described as being wild and like a bear. Might be a good friend to Brienne as shes described similarly also that seems to be Tormunds type.

Yep - that's the Long Bridge of old Volantis in Essos.

Does anyone know who owns the sigil at 17 seconds in the trailer - the white fist on red background?

if so it'll be Brothers without Banners time.
    I'd prefer the Hound tho

“is a broken man an outlaw?"

    "More or less." Brienne answered.

Septon Meribald disagreed. "More less than more. There are many sorts of outlaws, just as there are many sorts of birds. A sandpiper and a sea eagle both have wings, but they are not the same. The singers love to sing of good men forced to go outside the law to fight some wicked lord, but most outlaws are more like this ravening Hound than they are the lightning lord. They are evil men, driven by greed, soured by malice, despising the gods and caring only for themselves. Broken men are more deserving of our pity, though they may be just as dangerous. Almost all are common-born, simple folk who had never been more than a mile from the house where they were born until the day some lord came round to take them off to war.

And one day they look around and realize all their friends and kin are gone, that they are fighting beside strangers beneath a banner that they hardly recognize. They don't know where they are or how to get back home and the lord they're fighting for does not know their names, yet here he comes, shouting for them to form up, to make a line with their spears and scythes and sharpened hoes, to stand their ground. And the knights come down on them, faceless men clad all in steel, and the iron thunder of their charge seems to fill the world...

    "And the man breaks.

"He turns and runs, or crawls off afterward over the corpses of the slain, or steals away in the black of night, and he finds someplace to hide. All thought of home is gone by then, and kings and lords and gods mean less to him than a haunch of spoiled meat that will let him live another day, or a skin of bad wine that might drown his fear for a few hours. The broken man lives from day to day, from meal to meal, more beast than man. Lady Brienne is not wrong. In times like these, the traveler must beware of broken men, and fear them...but he should pity them as well”

find it interesting in that clip that Davos talking to the mormonts about the undead and not Jon who was Jeors steward and has actually seen the dead.

Following on from Bran's vision and Qyburn's return, here's a question.

    Can wyldfire kill white walkers/others?

He looks more like Tim McInnerny to me rather than Clive Mantel.

Its magical so it might work and would be able to wipe out the army as it burns all it comes into contact with. Put it in some trebuchets, hit the middle some burst into flame, touch others they burn too soon their whole army smolders. Don't know if it could take out the white walkers but it could take out the whights and then dragons, valyrian steel or obsidian could take out the white walkers.

Will the Blackfish survive the episode? Probably not, given the way they are cleaning house and getting rid of minor/secondary characters this season.

Could the Blackfish be the end of Jaime? "Broken man" being the one handed swordsman?

    Tormund.
    Bronn.
    Mace Tyrell.
    Grand Maester Pycelle.
    Daario.
    The Blackfish.
    Walder Frey.
    Dolorous Edd.
    Wun Wun.

Tormund. Brienne will break him in half.
    Bronn.
Mace Tyrell - not sure he qualifies as a man.
Grand Maester Pycelle . - Was broken by Tyrion and thrown in a cell.
Daario. You could argue the 2nd actor broke the 1st.
    The Blackfish. Red Wedding anyone?
Walder Frey. Would you even notice seeing misery is his default setting?
    Dolorous Edd. ,Good call.
    Wun Wun.:D

    :)

Okay apart from Bronn... (insert monthy python sketch)...

Tormund - It could be argued he's broken from the point of view that for most of his life he hated the Southerners "anyone south of the wall", but accepted he couldn't survive without them.

Bronn - When he "betrayed" his friend, Tyrion for the better lifestyle he was becoming accustomed to, he looked broken.

Mace Tyrell - He's an embarrassment - pretty much everyone knows this - if not himself. He's a shell of the person he's expected to be.

Grand Maester Pycelle, has broken promises of his profession, and seems afraid for his life in almost every scene.

Darrio - half the man he was, pretty much a lap dog of Dany

Blackfish - hard one alright, but he's less of a man with his missing fingers.

Walder Frey - he's only relatively recently got some backbone (post red wedding) and he still has an inferiority complex.

Dolorous Edd - Not the most confident person, but hard to describe as broken to be fair. But, if broken it's hardly going to be newsworthy, it's almost a certainty Castle Black will fall.

Wun Wun - Not sure falls under the category of man.

Its Davos not Blackfish missing fingers!!

I forgot to add - Ramsay - he aint broke yet ;)

    Hot Pie

But a boy, and as a follow up to Dolorous Ed.

Most if not all the Night's Watch could be considered broken men. Most were sent there for being rapists/murderers.

And those that thought it a noble cause (Jon) would have been disillusioned soon after arriving.

Dolorous Ed, he has seen what little honour that remained of the night's watch shattered once Jon (His Lord Commander) was "killed" by fellow Night's Watch men. He certainly looked pretty broken in the room guarding Jon's "dead" body.

I assume there'll be a bit of action at Riverrun this episode. Brienne vying for the Blackfish's support on behalf of Jon and Sansa and the Freys and Lannisters trying to get him to yield. I would have thought the broken man would be Edmure Tully or possibly the Blackfish will be broken when the Freys/Lannisters threaten to kill Edmure?

It could maybe refer to the Faceless Men, they like calling themselves a 'Man', a 'Girl', etc. Arya could do something to Jaqen and he becomes the 'Broken Man'.

I really liked that character that plays the faceless man in season 1, he's just so bloody boring now, washing dead corpses.

I think it will be The Hound as in Westeros a "broken man" is another way of saying deserter, which we know The Hound technically is as he legged it from the battle of the Blackwater. This will set up Cleganebowl for episode 8 or 9, 9 possibly being a dual hander between the Cleganes and Bastardbowl in the North.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 173 ✭✭amos13

The broken men are bandits are they not? Now if only we knew of a group of outlaw bandits whose plot line seemed unfinished and who we'd all like to see make a return to the show at some point.......Hmmmm......

I would have though Jamie was the Broken Man since its obvious the Blackfish wont give a toss of what he has to say because Jamie no longer has his sword hand.

If it's The Hound, i'd imagine its a nod to the fact he was broken the last time we saw him rather than deserting at the Blackwater.

Id say the Blackfish wouldn't give a toss about what Jaime has to say regardless of how many hands he has.

Anyone think that the "re-introduction" we were given to the 2 Frey lads by Lord Walder (the guy that stabbed Robs missus, and the guy that cut Cat's throat) is pointing out that we should remember who they are?
Could LS appear to get her revenge on them in the Riverlands??

Id say the Blackfish wouldn't give a toss about what Jaime has to say regardless of how many hands he has.

True, the Freys, with the backing of the Lannisters, murdered his niece (who he was particularly close to), grandnephew and scores of his friends and relatives in one of the most brutal, dishonorable ways imaginable.

To an old school warrior like the Blackfish this is unforgivable. The Freys will try to use Edmure as leverage- but I expect BF will ignore them, knowing full well that, the Freys being the Freys, they'll likely massacre him and the garrison as soon as they concede and murder Edmure anyway.

He'll fight like a dog and he'll fight till the end.

The next episode is looking interesting- reckon we'll get to see some of the minor houses (Glovers, Mormonts) come to the fore as well as the welcome returns of Bronn and BF. Loads of diplomacy and political maneuvering- maybe even a little action. If Bronn is on the scene, it's safe to assume people are going to die horribly.

Battlelines are being drawn, alliances forged and many of our "heroes" will be finding themselves on opposing sides.

It looks like their former selves have to be broken before they become the faceless ones. Once broken...

    Are you serious?

He was a massive fan favourite, a hugely complex character who went from simply being Joffreys henchman to trying to protect Loras Tyrell from the Mountain to trying to help Sansa anyway he could, and then to being almost a father figure to Arya - at which point we really got an insight into who he was and why he was the way he was.

Given his background is it any wonder he ended up how he did?

    Book spoiler:
Who loved Catelyn Stark? She was a moany old bint who was mean to Jon Snow his whole life just because her husband betrayed her. If its LS Ill be eating every f**king chicken in sight.
