I'm in rural Co. Kilkenny & I keep hearing a particular birdsong at ground level outside the window of my home office, but I've yet to spot the bird. It sounds like a game bird of some sort to me, with two parts to its call, one following the other in quick succession - about the same tempo as you'd hear a pump-action shotgun being primed. In fact, the timbre is not dissimilar to that sound either, except the tone would be several octaves higher.

All possibly clear as mud I grant you, but if anyone has suggestions I'll run 'em through Youtube and see if I get a match.
