Is anyone using TVButler for Saorview? Is it worth buying?

Is there something special about this USB tuner?
If not then it seems to be hugely overpriced for a USB DVB-T/2 tuner, some of which can be bought for as little as €15 or less.

I suppose the best thing about it is the software that comes with it, but that is not even available in Ireland.

Looks like I'll be going for a ~€15 alternative!

Something like this should do what you need ... search ebay.ie for

    RTL2832U & R820T DVB-T RTL-SDR+DAB+FM USB 2.0 Digital TV Receiver Stick Tuner

I went ahead and bought that Turner, the one you mentioned, PureIsle. Have it hooked up to my NAS, as a TV Server. I was thinking of buying the DVBlogic TVButler initially, because its listed as compatible with my NAS. But the above one works. Thanks!

All the channels come in crisp, except for RTE1, RTE1+1, UTV Ireland, RTE Jr as they are on a different MUX apparently.....After some old school Richard Dean Andersoning I found that those channels work when I wrap tinfoil around the antenna!!

Proof of concept if I decide to cut the Virgin Media cable next year. I'm wondering if a more expensive Indoor Aerial would cut out the need for the tinfoil. I'm assuming there would be some improvement...

I live in an apartment with no possibility of a roof aerial.

    A more expensive one ?

What are you using now ? The little small one that comes with the usb dvb-t stick ? If so you will have no problem even in an apartment with a small indoor powered aerial positioned near a window or the window cill. You'll probably need to extend the cable from the indoor aerial if your usb-dvbt device is far away from the window cill.

You'll also need an mcx to RF Coax cable (to junction the usb device back to normal sized RF) which cost €2 or less.

I'm using the exact one posted above, with no modifications.

    RTL2832U & R820T DVB-T RTL-SDR+DAB+FM USB 2.0 Digital TV Receiver Stick Tuner

I basically bought it to test with my NAS, and to check if I have a decent signal.

I'll try moving it first. Its beside a window already, but line of sight is broken to the transmitter tower by part of a balcony wall. Ill try moving it as see if it improves.

When you say "you will have no problem even in an apartment with a small indoor powered aerial", do you mean the little antenna that comes with this tuner, or would my assumption be correct, that another (Slightly more expensive) indoor aerial would be better...

If you are picking up anything with the little aerial that comes with those dvb-t device ANYTHING will be better! They are useless!

I have a load of those USB DVB-T devices including the one you mentioned.

The signal will be night and day when you switch to a small indoor powered aerial, positioned by the window cill junctioned with an RF to MCX cable.

I was lucky enough to be able to split the cable from my outdoor aerial so get a great picture on that dongle, and on another type I have ...... one per mux.

Given your signal strength being so good that the wee alleged aerial is picking up the channels, an ordinary unpowered aerial of better quality might suffice.

Going to Parcel Motel one of these (TELECAM TCE2000 High performance UHF indoor TV aerial) from Amazon, with a Coaxial to MCX converter as STB. suggested. Just haven't got around to it yet. Hopefully it will catch all the missing channels, at the same or close to the same quality as the little aerial does.
