    Hi all,

    quick q.

I did a small nixer (wroth roughly 400 euro) for an outside company. It was actually for a friend and she is insisting that I get paid for it. However, I mentioned it to my boss in passing who said this was against my contract. Fair enough but I still would like to get paid. My boss said it's grand but to just know for future reference.

My boss is sound and won't follow up with this. Just wondering if the accountant in my full time employer be aware of this? Or payroll? Just I know that the HR sits beside her and I dont want to create a big drama.

Any idea what I should do? When I said on my invoice to the nixer I have to fill out an application form for part time work with that company (prob just for that one task). I'm concerned that my fulltime employer will find out... Even if my boss doesnt care I am worried that the accountant/HR will?

    Thanks

If it was a nixer, why did you tell your boss?

    Thanks

Hang on, what's this bit about? Who sent the invoice to whom? Why did it include anything about filling in forms? Who did the forms go to?

You need to learn what a nixer is

LOL. I love the passive agressive posts above!! I was properly giggling away to myself.

OK, my wording is off but basically did an extra task for another company and wondering if my accountant will see that I have done this extra work.

    Geez,it was only a joke.

if I was the HR manager I would be avoiding you at all costs so maybe you wont have to worry what she has to say about your nixer

    can i clarify?

was it a nixer or did you subcontract out to another company?

a nixer is off the books cash in hand unofficial work.

if you issued an invoice and filled out an application form then it wasnt a nixer.

it reads like you have been taken on as a part time as needs must employee with the other company.

it will go though the revenue and you may need to spilt your tax credits dependant on your circumstances.

and no the workplace accounts wont see it but if you dont tell them it may effect your tax status because you will effectively be earning more than they are taxing you for.

call the revenue and ask them what to do.

    Passive aggressive? Ahh, no.

Your post was very confused about what you actually did, and I asked a simple question to avoid having to type both of the paragraphs below.

If you did some casual or part-time employment for another company, then you would have applied for a job with them, and been paid thru their payroll. In this case, Revenue would likely adjust your tax credits, and your main-company accountant will get amended Tax Credits and SRCOP for you. They won't know why these have been amended, but they will know that you have some income from somewhere else this financial year, and the amount of this income. And you should contact Revenue, to review how the tax-credits split has been done.

But you said that you sent in an invoice. If this is right, then you were working as a contractor for the other company, and managing your own tax affairs. In this case, Revenue will not be notified, and there is no way your main-company accountant will know about it. But you now have a responsibility to declare this extra income to them: do it next year, after your've got your P60 from your main job.

So - how were you paid: thru the 2nd company payroll with tax deducted, or thru their accounts payable with no tax deducted?
