Replacing aero brakes with regular dual pivot

    Hey All, so I've got one of these 'aero' brake set ups that uses TRP 922/822 calipers.

    The front brake is located behind the fork and the rear brake is located on the chain stay (like this Pinarello_graal_brake.jpg

    They are attached to the frame with 2 main screws each, instead of just 1 central one.

    I was wondering if it'd be possible to replace these brake calipers with normal shimano 105s that have just the one main central screw. Could a hole be put into the frame of the bike?

    I doubt it would be successful seeing as how the normal set up has an alluminium tube inserted in the the frame I assume during the moulding process. If you didn't have this the first attempt at breaking you'd probably tear the caliper out of the frame/

    Perhaps you could replace the front fork with a standard one at least that'd fix one end.

    What's the issue with your current set up?

    I've got really bad clearance for 25c tyres on the front. I've tried putting on a a 25c michelin tyre on the front but it's rubbing off the caliper vertically. I think adjusting the front brake cable tension (to move the shoes closer together) will fix this as it raises the roof of the calliper. But adjusting this is a pain - it requires a 2.5mm allen key to adjust it and the screw has worn out so the brake cable itself won't stay in place and is really hard to tighten. I'm going to bring it to the bike shop tomorrow see what they can do about it.

    Shimano Direct Fit brakes may be the answer.

    Was thinking the same till I saw this "Note: Not compatible with Shimano Direct Mount" Seem's a bit mental.
