Mystery Shopping

I was thinking of signing up to do mystery shopping. I'm lucky that I'm in a permanent, full time position and but between tax, prsi and the universal social charge, I think I would be paying nearly 50% of my mystery shopper earnings in tax.

I was going to see an accountant to see if they could set me straight about a few things but I was afraid of what I would be charged, for just 5 mins of their time!!

Has anyone here ever done mystery shopping? Are you able to deduct the likes of petrol and other related expenses from your income?

This is normally PAYE income and paid per assignment.- you should also receive an small allowance for mileage , but this cannot be claimed under paye income .

if you are a high earner ( over 70k) the 50% you talk about is probably 40% tax / 8% USC and 4% PRSI

Call the tax office with an estimate of your earnings from both employments in 2016 and they will give you free advice
