got a phone call dis-morning from a company which i applied for a job last night they want me to come in and put a ''face to the name''. stated it was not an interview. any tips for this besides treating it as an interview.

Do your research on the company and ensure you know the role you applied for and yes treat it very much like an interview even though they say it isn't. No company is going to waste time with you unless they are interested.

*(this of course doesn't count for recruitment firms, they can waste your time and sometimes are using the meeting to find out who else you have applied for so they can contact them to offer their services!).
