Can I renew my Learners Permit?

    Hi all,
I'm looking to get back into driving and try get my full license this time around. Though I'm confused about the time frame I have in which to renew my learners permit. It's been expired for about a year and a half now.
I was sent a letter stating I must renew my license within 3 months in order to keep it again for another 2 years.
I was just searching up about it and was on the National Drivers License website, I can't post links because I'm still new to the forums but I quote

"You can apply to renew a learner permit up to three months before the expiry date of your learner permit. If your licence has expired for FIVE YEARS or more you must start the application process afresh and take a driver theory test, mandatory driving lessons and a driving test."

It hasn't been out of date for 5 years, does this mean I can still renew it without having to take the theory test again? I'm truely confused so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

It's quite confusing as it states license in the comment you copied. You did not hold a license. Might be worth giving them a call to clear it up.

If I can renew it within 5 years why on earth do they also tell us it must be within 3 months?

I sent them an email, ill post the answer here once I get a reply.

The NDLS allow applicants to renew an existing permit (or full licence) up to 3 months early for their convenience. It's not mandatory to renew within that period and if a permit expires, the renewal process is exactly the same. The three month rule is for customer convenience only.
