Is there already a thread for this? I couldn't find one.

Anyway, just started watching this a week or so ago and it's brilliant. I've got 5 episodes left to watch of Season 1, but the quality of this series is unbelievably good.

It's the type of series I think a lot of the regular TV forum posters would love, but probably just haven't given a chance yet. Give it a shot though, it's really funny and clever.

I know Season 1 finished airing a while ago, but may as well have a thread here for Season 2, when hopefully more people will have jumped on the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend bandwagon.

    Is there anyone else watching?

EDIT: Was going to post the series trailer they released for it last year for those who haven't watched any of the series yet, but that trailer doesn't do the show justice at all and it's actually a bit off-putting the way they put it together, just give the first episode a shot, it's the only way to get a real idea of whether you'll like the show or not.

I binged it a couple of weeks back. The title and the fact is a musical put me off but I heard nothing but good reviews and had loved Galavant so gave it a shot. Some of the songs are hysterical. I was humming 'I gave you a UTI' for ages.

I was going to start a thread on 'shows you think you'll hate but actually. .' for people to discover great programmes they would normally avoid with this, Friday Night Lights..

I would add Jane the Virgin to that list. I actually heard of Crazy Ex Girlfriend through that. I do like musicals but the title and premise just put me off. But it was shown the same night s JtV in the US and a lot of people were recommending them together so I finally gave it a go and loved it!

I watched the first one over the weekend and really enjoyed it. I'll watch some more!

I think it's a great idea for a thread, because there's definitely a lot of shows like that, where the title can be off-putting but the show itself is quality - Cougar Town and Happy Endings being prime examples of this.

Jane The Virgin is next on my list to try. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Glad to hear more praise for it, before I even get started.

I think it definitely gets better as the series goes on. The first few episodes are great, but not a patch on what comes later - especially when side characters like White Josh become more prominent.

I'll put JTV on my list.

Rachel who plays Rebecca also created the show

Yes, yes I did nominate this as Most Memorable Scene in the TV Awards... And I stand by that decision wholeheartedly... :D

Not sure if this was there for a while, though I don't think so, but I see this is on Netflix now.

Jane the Virigin is brilliant. Another one I thought I wouldn't like but ended up binging on was "Mom" with Allison Janney and Anna Faris. I've never watched Crazy Ex Girlfriend but I'll give it a look tonight :)

Can I nominate someone for this show?......

Just finished a 3 day binge of CEG on netflix. Didn't really take to it initially, but glad I gave it another go. Worth a watch.
Looking forward to season 2, and will probably re-watch it again in the meantime :)

Great to see more people checking out this show and enjoying it. It definitely helps that it's now on Netflix.

I added to my 'to watch' list because of this thread and seeing some impressive reviews. Finally started it this week and my wife is a little obsessed now. It probably helps that we are both a little odd and tend to break into made up random songs.

I actually quite like her as an actress and she can sing, but I think the roles she's played before know have been fairly sub-par (as in how the characters are written rather than how Snow plays the parts), so Crazy-Ex Girlfriend could potentially be a great show for her and I hope this casting decision works out.

Just finished the first season - which I only gave a chance to because of folks here. The two of us are very glad we did, it's a great little show. I'm not really a fan of musicals but the songs in here are both catchy and funny, a difficult mix. Rachel Bloom is a great lead, with a very strong cast.

Looking forward to Season 2 and hopefully Netflix will put up episodes as they air as they do with some other shows.

Apparently it will be on UK Netflix a few days after the US airing, hopefully that's the same with Irish Netflix.

Where did you read that? Season one is on the Irish Netflix so there's a good chance for this.

Unless there's an Irish broadcaster*, that applies to Ireland too and the article just doesn't mention it.

*This happened with the show "Reign". In the UK new episodes are added weekly to Netflix but not in Ireland as RTÉ have the license.

First episode of Season 2 is now up on Netflix, and it's a blast. So happy this is back.

Greg's Drinking Song was infectiously good - definitely one to add to the drinking session repertoire (it's fit in nicely sandwiched between Seven Drunken Nights and Monto).

Well I am shocked Greg is gone, all Joschel now

I don't think Josh is is the plan anymore. I think Rebecca needs time to herself.

The sophomore slump is strong with this one.
Not sure what's happened but the songs are rubbish this year and Greg's absence is massive.

Thought it started off weak but got back to its old self. Watched the two most recent episodes last night and really enjoyed them both.

    Renewed for Season 3.

Just finished season 2 tonight.... Agree with the post above - thought the first few episodes dragged a bit... not the same standard as last season.... Glad I stuck it out though, as it got much better as the season went on, especially the last 4 or 5 episodes....also really liked the ending. Looking forward to season 3

Yeah Season 3 should be interesting now - looks like they're going a different with it. Hopefully we'll see even more of the supporting characters next season (in particular Maya, Nathaniel, Father Brah, White Josh, Hector, and Scott who I think are all great - also if they could bring George back) and a bit less of Josh, who I consider to be the weak link in the cast.

Definite improvement in the latter half of the season but the music never reached the heights of season one.

Just binged this in time for the season two finale at the weekend. What a great show. It definitely floundered in season 2 once Greg left but certainly found it's feet for the end of the season and that great ending. Season 3 promises to be fantastic.

I've gotten the impression from reading interviews with Rachel Bloom that she has always had a clear 4 season arc in mind. And it seems that Santino Fontana's decision to leave the show between the last two seasons meant a lot of scrambling had to be done to write him off in a natural way (though I suspect his alcoholism plot was accelerated) and then to adjust the plot to his absence. I wasn't sure of it all when Nathaniel was introduced and found the Santa Ana winds episode a bit of a chore but the last few episodes clicked. I'm so intrigued about the extent to which Rebecca will come after Josh now that we know the extent of her mental issues. And also about how far Valencia, Heather and especially Paula will go along with her before the level of her craziness spooks them.

    In before LeVar!

Strong opening and the song "Let's Generalise About Men" was great - really skewered all those tired Hollywood tropes. And Rebecca is bonkers and now even more so in an unhinged way. Looking forward to seeing more.

"Am I Dead? How did I Die?"

Great to have it back. There weren't enough songs in the episode, but what they lacked in quantity they made up for in quality...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭Occono

Thankfully Netflix does have this here.

Rachel says the title sequence will premiere next week.

Is it not usually two an episode?

'Let's Generalise About Men' was great though

Really? I thought it was usually three, but it's been so long since season 2 ended I can't remember all that well.

Really heavy episode...a few tears at the end. Wonder what's going to happen next.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 18,004 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

So it got renewed for Season 4 and Rachel Bloom has confirmed the fourth season will be its last. No real surprise there - it was her plan and was clearly heading that way. Best to go out on a high.

Sad that it's over, ending a little bit of a cop out, even if probably the best from a real world point of view. Wish there had been a bigger 'ensemble' showstopper for the final episode but I suppose we had one in the previous episode and I did enjoy the 11 o clock song. Apparently they're going to come do some shows in the UK, wonder if they'll come here too, I'd definitely go.

They did a big 'songs from the show' finale after the last episode.

I was quite disappointed with the last season. The songs weren't as catchy, the production budget seemed to have taken a massive drop from previous seasons and it wasn't nearly as funny as it used to be.
I still really enjoyed the live show at the very end. Great fun!

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 35,737 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

Yeah, storywise seasons three and four got progressively worse and the songs just couldn't maintain the quality of season 1 & 2. Glad it ended when it did.
