Why the hell isn't there already a thread for one of Netflix's best new shows? Okay, it was only uploaded last Friday, but based on only the first episode so far, it's amazing. Very funny and original. I was going to watch more, but decided to post this thread first, as I knew I hadn't seen a thread on boards about it.

The first season of Lady Dynamite has received widespread acclaim from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes it has a rating of 95%, based on 19 reviews, with an average rating of 8/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "Maria Bamford's Lady Dynamite is a vibrant, subversive, sweet, meta-fictional ride - but also a courageous, boundary-busting and ultimately deep portrayal of a troubled psyche.

It's created by Mitchell Hurwitz (Arrested Development) and Pam Brady (South Park), and stars Maria Bamford.

Jesus, I thought it was absolutely tripe from start to finish. Very surprised it's connected to arrested development which I still watch often.

Characters were clichéd, jokes were advertised a mile away or just actually unfunny. Just total ****e.

Did you watch all 12 episodes? And why, if you didn't like it so much? Not being a smartass, genuine question.

I'm up to episode 5 so far, it's great. We got two episodes with two different Supermans, and "cradle the balls and work the shaft". I like it better than Kimmy Schmidt.

What sort of comedy is it closest to then?

It's hard to compare it to other shows, as one reviewer put it, it's "genre-busting". Something along the lines of Louie, Arrested Development, and The Comeback (with Lisa Kudrow). But it's different than those, it's goofy, it breaks the fourth wall, jumps between three different time periods (in a comedic way), and is just something new and fresh I found funny. I think it might gain a cult following, and be looked back on fondly in years to come, as "ahead of its time".

Quotes from episode 3, "White Trash", where Maria solves
    racism
, on the set of a sitcom pilot, starring
    the Lucas brothers
    as
    trash collectors
    .

    -What's the show about?
-It's about two African American brothers who are garbage people.
    [all gasp]
-Maria, we don't call them garbage people anymore.

-Remember, if you're white, keep it light. They've already been burdened enough with our shenanigans. Especially our nation's ultimate shenanigan...slavery.

This show is so good I binged it all in one day and then started again once over.

I like that there wasn't any jokes made about Scott's appearance.

It reminded me a lot of The Sarah Silverman Program, I really enjoyed it. Season 2 was confirmed.
