Engine replacement

    Hi,

The engine in my daily is on its last legs. I found a parts car online that is very cheap and has some nice options that mine didn't come with. Additionally, it has a larger displacement engine. The swap is very simple since it's the same car.

I realize that the car will now be in a different tax bracket and I am ok with that, my main concern is insurance. Will it now be flagged as a modified car? If so, why?

    Thanks for the help!

Definitely be better ask before doing it. Insurance companies are getting very particular and loading everything they possibly can.
Be a pain to have it done and then find they are looking for an arm and a leg or worse won't cover it at all.

    Mail your insurer.
Whatever decision they make, you want in writing.

Spoke to the insurer. They do consider it modified.

On the other hand, assuming the parts donor and your car share more mechanicals than just the engine (quite a possibility without knowing models & trum) it may be worth putting the donor on the road using your own car as parts donor. It probably would be cheaper to insure than your own modified.
